...Sorry. Just found both of those to be ridiculously offensive and self-satisfying - the latter post more than the former. Any comments or responses, message me.

Amy Winehouse – Back To Black Lyrics 17 years ago
*headdesk*

bignose1985... "take it from someone who knows"? Oh come on. MANY people know. Hell, I know what it's like to be clinically depressed. It sucks. Yeah. But that doesn't give you an automatic license to claim that what you say is absolutely right. It MAY be correct. The song MAY be about depression. But I don't think so. And whether it is or not, you WOULDN'T know. Only Amy Winehouse would. I think that we've all established that it's about multiple things - his affair, cocaine, pot, etc. But even so, your interpretation may just be different from someone else's. Everyone's interpretation is valid - yours no more than someone else's.

Oh, and benbracco?
You can go do something inappropriate with a twelve inch wooden spoon and a jar of jam.
You seem to be propogating everyone else's ignorance.
"politically-correct adolescent white wankers"?!
That's pretty fuckin ignorant, judging people you don't know jack about. Just because someone's from New York doesn't mean they've gone out with a Jewish guy, just because someone's from San Francisco doens't mean they're a lesbian, and just because Amy Winehouse is from fuck-all-who-knows-where, doesn't give you license to condemn everyone for simply not knowing her damn address. I mean, come on. I like her music. I love this song. I don't even really care about what it's about to HER. It's interesting, and offers insight, that's true. But her own life story is not the be-all-end-all of a song. The point of a song is that it can connect to a lot of different people in different situations. So it really pisses me the hell off when people seem to think that their own opinion matters far more than others'. It is both arrogant and ignorant.

Evelyn Evelyn – Have You Seen My Sister, Evelyn? Lyrics 18 years ago
Oh, and it's the "Chattanooga Choo Choo", a famous song/dance. And however much I love Charlie Chaplain, it's not the "Chaplain or the Chu-Chu."

Fiona Apple – Never Is a Promise Lyrics 19 years ago
Okay, check the username. This is kinda my favorite song... I adore it. It's beautiful - Fiona's music is so lyrically intracate and... just... beautiful.

I think this song is about being in love with someone you know is bad for you. "Never is a promise" refers to a promise he made. "I could never hurt you," "I will never break your heart," cheat on you, lie to you, etc. But this is something that she knows cannot possibly be true. He'll end up hurting her again...
"But never is a promise, and you can't afford to lie."
This line is very strong and determined, saying, in a way, what he can and cannot do to her. What she will not allow or believe. But through the rest of the song, Fiona reveals her ambiguity:
"I don't know what to believe in, you don't know who I am."
...showing how she doesn't know what to do now that she knows she can't believe him.

My favorite lines are the two that truly reveal her dillemma:
1) "I understand what I am still to proud to mention,"
Revealing her own flaws, showing that she made a mistake in falling in love but not wanting to to admit it, and:
2) "I realize what I am now to smart too mention,"
Referring to the fact that, now that she understands everything, she also knows that it's too late to stop it. She's already fallen in love, and she can't ake it back without getting hurt.
