I agree with BecauseImApril; the person he's singing to definitely sounds like they are depressed ("routine malaise") or at least has depressive bouts ("momentary phases") which make it difficult to maintain their relationship. He is trying to be supportive but finds it difficult as anybody in that situation would, and juju202 was spot on in saying that the chorus/refrain is like half a conversation; the plaintive "Would you..."s and "Maybe"s illustrating that he is trying to find a way to express his frustration without hurting that person's feelings. Finally, mdprhs makes a valid point that the lyrics don't necessarily point to a romantic relationship; they could be about anyone who you are close to but who due to their depression sometimes pushes you away. |

| Last line should read 'redecorating'. This is probably my favourite of the new songs at the moment; musically, it reminds me of the theme tune to 'Rainbow'! Presumably instead of 'Post soothing out', he meant to text 'Sort something out'? | |
