Avril Lavigne – Anything But Ordinary Lyrics 19 years ago
The first time I heard this song, I had no idea who it was even by. Pretty much didn't even know who Avril Lavigne was. But it got stuck in my head, and I'd walk around singing the Chorus over and over and over and I'd drive everyone crazy with it. It had an impact on me. I love it.
And for everyone who was throwing around words like pop, punk, and poser.... just don't. That's annoying. That's 'ordinary'. I've never met Avril, so I can't say one way or another about her attitude or personality, but I love her music.
And that's what it's about, isn't it? The music.... I'm in no position to say whether her music is pop or punk or country or whatever the hell else anyone said.... I think I'm behind the times (ha, at 16, imagine that?). I thought 'pop' was just 'popular music'?.... appears I was wrong.
Everyone has their own preferences. Mine happen to be all over the map.... but whatever. Point is, it's a good song in my opinion and my favourite part is the chorus, probably because I'm a big fan of irony.... yeah.

(Oh, and I find it strange how it seems people in the media can never win. They're either too fat or too skinny, so original they're self-centered or so fake they're a mockery, too punk 'cause they're trying too hard or not punk enough.... *shrugs* I surprise myself with how much thought I've put into this. I never thought I cared.)

Avril Lavigne – Girlfriend Lyrics 19 years ago
Hmm... when I first heard this song, it reminded me a lot of Ashlee Simpson's "Boyfriend" (and I'm not a fan of Simpson's in any way) It wasn't so much in the music but in the tone of the lyrics. *shrugs* Maybe that's just me.

I hope this wasn't a serious song. I've taken it like a mockery, sort of like Pink's "Stupid Girls".... it's rather addictive, in that respect. It got stuck in my head pretty quick.

Panic! at the Disco – Build God, Then We'll Talk Lyrics 19 years ago
I don't know about anyone else, but I get that this is as much about the "substandard motels" as the people in the story. It talks about the tenants of the motel, and the whole first verse is describing it. And then -

"There are no raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses
It's sleeping with roaches and taking best guesses
At the shade of the sheets and before all the stains"

- is about the motel. Even the first line -

"It's these substandard motels
On the corner of Fourth and Freemont Street"

- says it is. The motel itself is the "wonderful caricature of intamcy", "along with the people inside". The people in the story are just "the people inside" on that particular night.

Oh, and I don't think the girl is a hooker, I think she actually is a virgin. The "rosary tucked inside her lingerie" is a string of praryer beeds used when praying to the Virgin Mary. So, no, I don't think she does this type of thing very often.

That's how I see it...

Panic! at the Disco – I Constantly Thank God For Esteban Lyrics 19 years ago
- I'm bored and in love with this song, so I'm gonna comment :) -

For whoever it was that asked how you get Stephen from Esteban: San Esteban is translated to Saint Stephen. And I think that theory fits for the sing title alot more than a Spanish guitarist... Even if Ryan DID learn how to play guitar from Esteban the Spanish guitarist, I don't see how that has anything to do with the song. Maybe I'm wrong and someone can enlghten me, but I'd like to think the title has more meaning than that. And if it is indeed about San Esteban, as I'm inclined to believe, then I think this might be a continuuation of "The only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage", as Esteban was the first Christian martyr. *shrugs*

... which would then mean that this isn't about the Church - at least, not completely. I like the theory that it has a double meaning about society, and the issues discussed in "The Only Diffrerence Between Martyrdom and Suicude is Press Coverage".

I love how nothing is clear in their lyrics. It's pretty much take what you want and ignore the rest.

Fall Out Boy – This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race Lyrics 19 years ago
I don't think it really matters what genre of music you'd classify this as. Everyone has their own opinion of what's what anyway. Fact is, it's a catchy song, very well-written (as are all FOB songs), and it's not just a bunch of crap. It DOES have meaning. Don't take it out on the band if you can't find that meaning. They're still FOB. They haven't changed all that much.

"I wrote the gospel on giving up (and looking pretty sinking),"
Pete's amazing. It's like he's in our heads. They're fitting us with weapons, people.

"At night we're painting your trash gold while you sleep,"
They're one step ahead of anything and everything we have to say. They take it and turn it around and make it work for them.

Anyway, this is supposed to be about THIS song. Don't diss the band 'cause you don't like THIS song.

Three Days Grace – Animal I Have Become Lyrics 19 years ago
Yeah, I thought this was a song about drugs...

"Help me believe,
It's not the real me,
Somebody help me tame this animal I have become,"

And the video kinda through me, but I think it still fits...
