I think religious torment is at the heart of this song. He may be a believer but she is at war with the devil (ie. a non believer) and he is losing faith because of it. |

The song is about escaping but it's not about drug addiction. It's Mike Scott trying to escape his record company after they wanted him to make more commercial music like "whole of the moon". He wanted to get away from all that and make his own music, so he went off to Ireland to record the fishermans blues album. Go see them live if you ever get chance. They are awesome |

I think this song is sung from the point of view of an unborn child and is about abortion. I had arguements with people who disagree. unholy and dirty words are gathered to me, maybe bastard, hence the abortion. The breathe for two bit is the part that really sold it for me though. Is a fantastic song |
