in the book it starts with this girl brandy who was shot and is bleeding [on the ballroom floor], and then it says 'scene setting we call it' [thats the 'heres the setting' the boys will be boys bit: this girl brandy isnt actually a girl, but a guy who has had majior gender change surgery. and is all was poping estrogin pills (female hormones) and wears a makup pencil called 'Aubergine dreams'. thats the obvious anyway. and and and...please help me out with the new lyrics i found..."A minute of perfection was worth the effort. A moment was the most you could ever expect from perfection." and "Matrimony is Paving the Way for Preplanned Alchemy" xx |

| The Dresden Dolls – Gravity Lyrics | 19 years ago |

ok... this song has kept me up for ages...and after looking at the lyrics over and over again. after listing to her voice. i think...i THINK...well my idea is this: i asked my friend and she said something about a young girl...which made me think more... Child prostitution came to mind. And the girl is reporting it to an officer or someone who is known to help (knowing her other songs, it probably not a officer). at the beginning: "gravity plays favourites i know it cause i saw" something has pulled her into this awful position, and she is picked as a favourite [?] (not quite sure about the favourites bit) “down at work I’m getting too familiar with the floor/trading in(my version) my talents by the mouthful” her work is prostitution and its becoming a regular thing-blow jobs “Hate to break it to you but it’s out of my control. Forces go to work while we are sleeping” if you following me at this point its explanatory. [She saying this to the ‘officer’] forces: the people who are forcing her to do the dirty deed (?) “Someone tell her, someone get her up!” …about saving her? The ‘chorus’: I have no ideas about the necks are cracking sideways bit…maybe she’s tired of it. I think this saying that she in a completely different world and you wouldn’t understand. “I am on the white side/you are on the black side” “cut a piece that’s bite size” I don’t think it’s about food. “shoot me from my good side” kill me, but make it look good. “if you’ve got a straight line, this would be a good time” a good time to get her out? Perhaps to do with the “someone get her up” “gravity works slowly if you notice it at all/some of us are getting mighty lucky (aren’t we)” she’s talking to the ‘officer’ again (because its in the same context). Saying that no one notices it and your lucky that you don’t notice and don’t have to live with it “if you had to live with this you’d rather lie than fall” describing how awful it is…”you think I can’t fly, well you just watch me” she can finally escaped(?) You can do it Good girl (recites ABC's) [Right] RIGHT foot [Left] LEFT foot/That’s just the way we showed you [being a good girl, doing anything they say] Look it's in colour! [She can see the bigger picture] Someone's in our seats dad! [Been replaced…when she becomes free (?)] POSTURE, Oh oh oh POSTURE?! Oh oh- Look I think he's going now... OH MY GOD SEE IF HE'S MOVING OK? I think we’ve lost him! [He’s gone, the person who she has to um ‘service’] There are screams in the background: might be distress, orgasms? “Shoot me from my bad side” kill me; I don’t care what it looks like “If you want a straight line/this would be a good time” ? (Feedback would be nice) “the sky is always falling down on me” I always keep on being put into the situation “so sorry officer, forgive me please” that’s just ending her plead to the ‘officer’ FEED BACK PLEASE! After writing this I read what Perfect_Scars(on page 2 of the comments) wrote and s/he is most likely to be right. I want that companion so bad, im going to ask for it for my birthday. With the back problems idea it fits in way better. And I think I’ve read about that in her biography on their website. |
