Nodens had it down perfectly. My Lovecraft books aren't around right now so I can't look it up for sure, but I believe in the story 'At the Mountains of Madness' a shoggoth is referred to as 'The Thing That Should Not Be', but the song is most likely referring to Nyarlathotep. |

I love how they revert back to the opening riff near the end. One of my favorite Metallica songs. I learned the intro a while ago, but I got distracted by other things after that. I should learn the rest sometime. |
