| Kate Bush – Strange Phenomena Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| it's about masturbation. | |
| Camera Obscura – Keep It Clean Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think she's confused about how she feels about him; the lyrics variously suggest that she wants to stay away from him and at other points, that she wants to get in touch, or even that she wishes they could be in a relationship. I think lokithecat is right about the cocaine reference. Whatever the meaning, it's a brilliant song! | |
| British Sea Power – Remember Me Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I get the impression that this is about isolation and alienation from onesself and society - you can read that either in terms of mental health or from a more political viewpoint. Either way, it's quite easy to make your own meaning from this. | |
| Belle & Sebastian – Marx and Engels Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Yeah, it is - or at least adapted from there. I've always taken this song to be about how the girl is so preoccupied with the literature and the political theory of Marx and Engels that she neglects the reality going on around her, and the misery of ordinary people which they write about. |

| Belle & Sebastian – If You're Feeling Sinister Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| It is interesting that this song seems to suggest that Murdoch has absolutely no faith in religion, given (as mentioned above) his church attendance, and the religious content of many other songs. I suppose it could well have been written during a time of doubt, as I fail to be convinced by any idea that this can be reconciled with a more personal (as opposed to institution-based faith) given that the alternative to church as religion is playing with yourself. | |
| Belle & Sebastian – Dress Up in You Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Where's the impression that there's hatred in this song coming from? Clearly, there was some sort of schism which occasionally breaks through e.g. "Now you’re an actress! / So says your résumé / You’re made of card You couldn’t act your way out of a paper bag". But the prevailing mood seems to be a desire (probably unrealisable) to regain that intense friendship, the platonic love which leads to the singer saying that "If I could have a second skin I'd probably dress up in you" which has prevailed in spite of one individual's success and the other's failure. "You give me stomach pain I wish that you were here We would have had a lot to talk about" seems to pretty much sum that up. |

| Belle & Sebastian – Stay Loose Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I always wondered whether this song was about the singer's relationship with God. This is a bit sketchy, but I'm tempted to come to this conclusion by virtue of the fact that the person being sung about knows him well, stays with him, offers him useful advice but is somehow far away from him, elusive, 'loose'. | |
