A friend of mine translated it to Portuguese and I worked in the English version of this: This morning, I woke up (Goodbye beautiful, goodbye beautiful) This morning I woke up And I found the invader Oh warrior, take me away (Goodbye beautiful, goodbye beautiful) Oh warrior, take me away For I feel I'm going to die And if I die as a warrior (Goodbye beautiful, goodbye beautiful) And if I die as a warrior You must bury me And bury me up that hill (Goodbye beautiful, goodbye beautiful) And bury me up that hill Under the shadow of a beautiful flower And the people who'll pass by (Goodbye beautiful, goodbye beautiful) And the people who'll pass by Will say: what a beautiful flower This is the warrior's flower (Goodbye beautiful, goodbye beautiful) This is the warrior's flower He who died for freedom |

I don't know if anyone knows it, but Fragilis blababla is a Virgil's quote. Here: "Facilis descensus Averni: noctes atque dies patet atri ianua Ditis; sed revocare gradium superasque evadere ad auras. hoc opus, hic labor est." Translation: "It is easy to go down into Hell; Night and day, the gates of dark Death stand wide; But to climb back again, to retrace one's steps to the upper air - There's the rub, the task." Book VI, line 126 And I didn't know Cygnus was the latin word for swan. It reminds me of a childish story of an ugly duck despised by his parents and brothers, and then he grew up to become a beautiful swan. Suggestive, in my opinion. But I didn't know about Cygnus (Zeus) being Leda's rapist. It's incredibly interesting, since this rape was the cause of Hercule's birth, the strongest man (or semigod) on Earth. And it also makes everyone wonder even more about this supposed rape. I think it's funny how everyone seems to agree that Cygnus/Frances/someone was born because of a rape. Now, my boyfriend has just googled: Tarantism is, allegedly, a deadly envenomation resulting from the bite of a kind of wolf spider called a "tarantula" (Lycosa tarentula). The widow, then. And people, Cedric IS NOT the songwriter! Omar is. Cedric helped him in a few lyrics but he's mainly a singer. Please, give Omar some consideration. |

I see this song as a sad story about being away from the person you love. Physically. Maybe it's because I live pretty far from my boyfriend and we relate a lot to this song, but some lines make me think so, e.g. "most people were overjoyed". When you have to fight so hard to be with a person you love very much, you see many couples breaking up all the time and such, like if they didn't care about any kind of love. And they can be together, when you can't (for now) even touch your love's face. When he says "the Atlantic was born today" I feel like if he was talking about crying so much you feel like you can't cry anymore. I don't know, it makes me think about pain and crying. The "I need you so much closer" line almost always makes me cry. XD The whole song is full of metaphors and then you have the most simple line anyone can write about love: I need you so much closer. So come on, and this line makes me feel like, no matter how far and hard it is, you always have to fight for it. |
