| Stereophonics – Stone Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
My fifty cents… I don’t know why I let you go You said you’d wait I said I’d hope you would We talked ‘til late until we walked away What’s meant to be will be they say He’s broken up with his girlfriend, who he evidently felt a lot for. Like he says, he doesn’t have a concrete answer or excuse for the breakup, he’s clearly confused. His girl evidently feels strongly for him too, yet perhaps presumes that he wants their relationship to end so doesn’t put up a fight for fear of making it more painful for both of them, yet she lets him know that she’ll always be there. Maybe the guy has been going through some difficulties and feels like he is holding her back with his problems, it’s not that he doesn’t love her anymore, it’s more complex than that. I don’t think she knows the real reason for him ending it- I think she probably just thinks that he’s fallen out of love with her. Strong tones of resignation and sorrow in this first verse. There’s also a definite sense of hope that fate will bring them back together later in life when the timing is better…if they are meant to be together. And I feel like stone Yes I feel ice cold I pick myself up from the ground Sick to death of lying down And now I have to find you once again Without her, the guy feels lost and alone. He’s restless and doesn’t know what his life really is without her in it- it’s only once he ends the relationship that he realizes how much he loves her and what he’s lost. You’re in my soul You’re in my mind But I don’t know where you are now You’re in my soul You’re in my mind But I don’t know where you are now He can’t stop thinking about her, she’s become a part of his soul and mind and he can’t escape her. As he can’t get her out of his head, maybe she’s supposed to be there? He doesn’t know where she is now, they were so close before but since he ended the relationship she has clearly moved on with her life and he’s lost the connection with her. Driving round and round until it's dawn To look for you in rooms we used to go I held you back, I had to set you free But now I know what’s meant to be A feeling of desperation- he’s hopelessly trying to find her even though deep down he probably knows that his chances are slim- she’s just become a memory to him that won’t escape his mind. He’s reliving his time with her, nostalgically looking in the places they used to go together with the hope that she may be there waiting for him. He starts to understand that he was mistaken in letting her go- he thought that he was doing the right thing because he thought he was holding her back, but now he knows how crap his life is without her, he’s knows that they aren’t meant to be apart and he is determined to get her back. And I feel like stone Yes I feel ice cold I pick myself up from the ground Sick to death of lying down And now I have to find you once again You’re in my soul You’re in my mind But I don’t know where you are now You’re in my soul You’re in my mind But I don’t know where you are now You’re in my soul You’re in my mind But I don’t know where you are now You’re in my soul You’re in my mind But I don’t know where you are now This is really sad…I hope he found her again and they lived happily ever after!! Or maybe he didn’t and they both found someone else and they were never really meant to be together after all…who knows! I’m sure lots of people can relate to this song in one way or another…whether you’ve broken up with someone and realize that it was a mistake and want them back, want someone that you can’t have at a certain time in your life for whatever reason, or if you’re just confused in love. Love Stereophonics! Sorry this was so long! |

| Def Leppard – Photograph Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I've been listening to this song a lot recently because it describes my current situation...aka liking a guy I can't have because he's already in a relationship, so all I can do is look at photos of him and wish I was the one he's with. It's a great song though, I'm sure I'm not the only one who can relate to it. | |
| Coldplay – Fix You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This is just a stunningly beautiful song. It's one of those that you don't need to analyse in any way, because it's simply not meant to be analysed. I'm of the opinion that feelings as strong as true love can never be perfectly expressed, but this song comes as close as you can to doing just that. His overwhelming desire to comfort his loved one and make everything alright for them just comes across so strongly and powerfully. When I'm feeling a bit low I just sit back and let it wash over me and it's so depressingly comforting that it gives me goosebumps. | |
| Disney – Circle of Life (The Lion King) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I love this- the circle of life...'more to see than can ever be seen, more to do than can ever be done'. I so relate to that- there's so much I want to experience and I often contemplate how it's impossible to see and do everything you want to, but at the same time I think that's kinda awesome in a weird way! Love the lion king- classic! | |

uajcgable your story....im sorry. i agree with you about telling people how you feel. I think this song just shows that not all feelings and emotions can be put into words. It's often so hard to explain how you feel, especially if you aren't sure that the other person will be able to understand, as feelings are so personal. When you feel very strongly, it is natural to feel confused and at a loss as to how to express yourself, and what best to do to ensure that you play things right and don't lose out. Here he is just so in love with th girl that he can't express how deeply he feels, all he can do is stare into her eyes to keep her close and try and minimise the risk of losing her. He is so frustrated at his inability to put his feelings into words that he wants to scream out or even die because love results in both pain and joy. Perhaps he is saying that sometimes the intensity of love simply transcends language. |

| I love it too it's just such a great song to describe a good old fashioned crush! Perhaps trying to fight how you feel but knowing that you've fallen for someone and everything they do makes you crazy! One part of you just wishes they'd disappear and stop torturing you but the other half loves it! Standard stuff haha well it is for me anyway! | |

'I love this song, possibly my fav ever! I have promised it is going to be my wedding song! for the first dance!! Out in an open ceremony next 2 a big lake under a full moon! its perfect!! x)' OMG me too! I visualise a lake, with everyone dancing on decking surrounding it, with fairy lights along the edge! (not tacky though!) and me and my new husband dancing to this song with all our friends and family around us :) aaah the thought makes me go all fuzzy! haha im such a hopeless romantic! I love the simplicity of it, I love how upbeat it is, yet also mellow and really chilled. It's just got such a summery, carefree vibe about it and it makes me so happy :) I don't understand how people can hate it- yer the original is great too but I just love the lighter feeling of Toploader's version. One of my fave songs x |

| Toploader – Just Hold On Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I think the meaning is pretty obvious- it's about not giving up on your hopes, your dreams- going with the flow and well, just holding on no matter what life throws at you! It's such an uplifting feel good song I LOVE it! walking on high hopes living on tight ropes running with your feet off the ground Love those lyrics- sometimes everything gets too much and it's easy to feel like you have no control over things and these lyrics reflect that feeling so well! Also the reference to a one way street- that feeling of not knowing what to do, feeling lost in yourself and confused. I think people can relate to this song in all sorts of ways- waiting for something to happen (be it an event in life, a new relationship, anything!), being excited about it at first but as time goes by losing faith etc. And Toploader are saying not to give up no matter how down you get! |

ivancerv50 your video is stunning and you encapsulated all my main thoughts on the song- especialy the roll down the smokescreen part- woah that was beautiful. Ok so there are clearly religious undertones in this song but although Brandon is the lyricist and he is committed to his religion, he has said before that he would never use his band to push religion on fans. I think he takes the heart of all religion- spirituality, and uses that to reflect his faith as everyone can relate to it, even atheists. This may be just because of how I'm feeling atm but to me this song is about new starts and the desire for new experience and exploration. My favourite line is 'roll down the smokescreen and open the sky'. I'll write a longer piece on this when I've given it more thought and have more time. I agree with what others wrote about the last verse with the symphony being a metaphor for life and the different stages we all go through. This song is awesome x |

Sweetnesskitty that was amazing thanks so much for that. I haven't made my own interpretation yet but I shall post it when I do. Much of what you said I will probably agree with when I think about it, particularly the Abel and Cain verse, but there are a few things I think I will disagree on, such as the children part. Just a quick thought. The title- 'tranquilize' also could be split to be 'tranquil eyes'. As if when children, you see the world through tranquil eyes, meaning that you are naive and innocent to the political problems the world faces, but as you mature you realise the issues and your world sometimes just turns to stone at how chilling some shit is...x |

Brandon sings: I’m gonna climb that symphony home and make it mine Let his resonance light my way See, all these pessimistic sufferers tend to drag me down So I could use it to shelter what good I’ve found I think that's right. And it's 'Man I need a release from this troublesome mind', 'Grace cut out from my brothers, when most of them fell'. Then it's 'Top a tower and sleep walk'. I think...? |

| The Killers – Read My Mind Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Here is my updated interpretation: I'm on the corner of main street, Just tryin' to keep it in line, You say you wanna move on and You say I'm falling behind, (The guy's (let's call him Brandon) girlfriend has ended their relationship because she wants to move on and see what's beyond the 'city wall' but Brandon doesn't seem ready to take the risk of leaving the security of his hometown. Whilst she is preparing to leave, he's just loitering around reminiscing on their past together and trying to stay calm emotionally) Can you read my mind? Can you read my mind? (Brandon doesn't want to say anything to hold her back, but he's hoping that they are close enough for her to be able to read his mind and realise that he does love her, he does want to come with her and follow their dreams but he's scared.) I never really gave up on, Breakin' out of this two-star town, I got the green light, I got a little fight I'm gonna turn this thing around, (Brandon still shares her dreams of leaving the town where everything stays the same and he's stuck in a rut. When he realises that she is serious about finally going, he decides to turn things around and follow his heart. The 'green light' symbolises the support that his family have given him- like a traffic light saying Go!, although after 'a little fight' in which he had to persuade them to give him their blessing.) Can you read my mind? Can you read my mind? (Brandon wants to go with her but he's struggling with that point where you have to take the risk and go for it, even though his heart is telling him to follow her and leave) The good old days The honest man The restless heart The promised land A subtle kiss That no one sees A broken wrist And a big trapeze (A series of clichés to summarise his past life growing up in his hometown. Also because they are clichés it symbolises how he has heard so many things before, the repetition and monotony of his smalltown life. He sees over the wall as being the promised land, and he is becoming restless after living so long in the same place. He values his upbringing and his homelife and everything that he has been taught but he knows it's time to move on. The subtle kiss represents his innocent childhood with his sweetheart and the deep love they share as it's private between themselves. The broken wrist and the trapeze symbolise the risks that he must take to realise his own American dream.) Oh well I don't mind if you don't mind, Cos I don't shine if you don't shine, Before you go... Can you read my mind? (Brandon doesn't 'shine' if the one he loves doesn't, so he's supporting her final decision to leave as he wants her to be successful and happy with no regrets about following her dreams. He probably knows that she is torn apart inside about having to end their relationship, but he doesn't want to make her doubt herself. He wants her to know that he still loves her, and that he's sorry that he isn't as strong as her.) It's funny how you just break down, Waitin' on some sign I pull up to the front of your driveway, With magic soakin' my spine (Brandon comes to the realisation that his life means nothing without his girlfriend. It's sort of saying how so many people wait for a sign rather than follow their heart and their instinct, but eventually you just KNOW what you need to do. Brandon is feeling the aftermath of their break-up and knows that he cannot live with this feeling of loss forever. Impassioned with this realisation (the 'magic' being his passion taking over), he gets in the car and races to her house (kind of like the last episode of Friends with Rachel and Ross at the airport...or whatever it was!) to win her back. Aww how romantic!) Can you read my mind? Can you read my mind? (Brandon saying- I'm not going to lose you girl! I just kind of imagine her eventually answering the door after he is giving up hope and they just stare at eachother, and she reads his mind by looking into his eyes, and she knows that their love is too strong for anything to come between them- ok I'll stop getting carried away now......ok I lie cos I so won't!) The teenage queen The loaded gun The drop dead dream The chosen one A southern drawl A world unseen A city wall And a trampoline (Perhaps as they are getting older they are getting bored with the insular life and need to break free else they will probably end up getting into trouble and losing sight of their dreams. The 'loaded gun' could represent this, but also how it is time for their dreams to be realised- the final shooting of the gun. The 'world unseen', 'city wall' and 'trampoline' represent the obstacles and risks like before- Brandon needs to jump over the wall to freedom, but it takes courage.) Oh well I don't mind if you don't mind, Cos I don't shine if you don't shine Before you jump... Tell me what you find, When you read my mind (Brandon is meaning- before you go, can you see how much it's hurting me to see you leaving, when I'm still apprehensive but desperate to come with you at the same time?) Slippin in my faith until I fall, You never returned that call Woman, open the door, don't let it sting, I wanna breathe that fire again (Brandon is losing hope of rekindling their relationship and it's hurting him as he has tried ringing his girlfriend to tell her that he's changed his mind, but she isn't answering, perhaps in an effort to block him out and move on as it is painful for her too. Brandon is desperate to reach her and get another chance to reignite their love as he knows that they both need eachother.) She said... I don't mind if you don't mind Cos I don't shine if you don't shine (His girlfriend doesn't want to lose him either but she has to get out of the small town. She's saying to him that of course he can come with her and share the dream as long as he is really happy to. She wants to help the one she loves chase his dream but she didn't want to push him into leaving when he wasn't ready to. She doesn't mind him coming with her because although she is trying to move on from her past, he is such an important part of it that having him by her side would never be a hindrance to her. She's happiest when he's with her and she needs to see him living his dream too in order to truly fulfil hers.) Put your back on me, Put your back on me, Put your back on me, (She is telling Brandon that she will always be there to support him as she knows that leaving is a huge step for him, especially as he intially put his hometown before their relationship because he was so apprehensive. She wants him to be able to trust her and stick at their dream everything will be alright as long as they have eachother. OMG I actually want to cry it's so beautiful!!!) (ooooooo) The stars are blazing like rebel diamonds, Cut out of the sun... (The stars symbolise their hope for a future together outside their smalltown. The rebel diamonds? Well they are rebels in a way, as have broken away from their hometown and their traditional family lives. They have taken the risk of leaving security, but there is a confidence that everything will be fine. The stars have been 'cut out' of the sun, implying that the stars and the sun are intricately connected- the stars were originally part of the sun. This symbolises how the two lovers will always have their hometown to come back to, and how they will never forget where they have come from) Can you read my mind? (Brandon is thrilled to have his girlfriend back in his life, living their dream together like they always said they would.) So that's my thoughts on IMO one of their best songs. Sorry it was SO long!! |

magic soakin' my spine? c'mon, that's acid he's talking about! "with magic soakin' my spine" this song is about doing acid .....or not? Sorry but I really don't see how this song is at all about 'doing acid'. Me thinks it's more that he's realised that he needs to be strong and follow his heart and leave the town with his girlfriend to explore new places rather than stay stuck in his hometown forever. He is impassioned with this realisation (magic soaking my spine), and desperate to get to her before she leaves because she is planning to go without him thinking he doesn't want to come with her and has lost faith in their dreams. He's tried ringing her (you never returned that call- yes it's 'you' not 'he') but she didn't answer, but he's not going to give up on their relationship. |

| Ok half my stuff just got cut off- I was saying that it could be about his girlfriend Brooke who he sings about in Get Trashed...so it may be 'Oh B youve done it now'...but prob wrong. And it sounds like its about a clingy possessive guy who has been dumped and is desperate to win his girlfriend back cos he cant go on without her or something...and just wants to be himself again but hes too caught up in his fear of losing her forever. | |

| The Cranberries – Zombie Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Woah. I've just read through most of your interpretations and it was really interesting, especially the more original ideas about schizophrenia/mental illness. I think it works really well with that idea too, as if the person is perhaps a war veteran and is living in the past still hearing the bombs and seeing people dying. He has become a Zombie, souless yet living after being mentally destryoed by the war. It could be saying that war is still going on today, children are dying and people's hearts are being broken- but why? You can see the effect that war has on people like the 'Zombie' she is talking about. BUT, although that works well, this is my interpretation. I think that the chorus is ambiguous as it shows the EFFECTS of war on people and how they never recover mentally. but it also shows the mental state of those intent on continuing war. I looked up Zombie in the dictionary and this one definition struck me: Zombie: someone who acts or responds in a mechanical or apathetic way APATHETIC being the key word. As if they don't care, they don't really think about the consequences of war maybe because it's too confusing or because they just don't want to. 'it's not me, its not my family' could mean that war seems separate as long as you or people you love are not directly affected. the soldiers who are intent on killing the enemy don't think about how the people they are killing have family and loved ones too. The singer is asking a 'Zombie' whats in their head- why do they keep fighting if children are dying and mothers hearts are breaking. the zombie has become brainwashed and goes to war mechanically...its all the same as back in 1916 (irish war etc that has been mentioned before being the main focus of the song but it applies to war in general). all they see is bombs and tanks and guns and people dying and its taken over their life. almost like its easier to keep on fighting then stop and think in the silence that comes after the violence about all the people who have died. perhaps it is about a war veteran who was like this when he was fighting but he HAS stopped and now can only relieve his experiences and see the people dying 'theyre still dying', the people that he killed whilst not thinking, a mechanical, apathetic 'zombie' brainwashed by the war. id say it was about an angry person very against war who doesnt understand whats going on in the heads of the mechanical zombies who dont seem to understand the consquences and devasting effects of the war they insist on fighting in. |

| The Killers – Jenny Was a Friend of Mine Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Ok so yep it's about a murder. Obvious from the police sirens at the start of the song and Midnight Show. So...Jenny is Brandon's girlfriend and he is shock from the revelation/discovery that she loves another guy. They go for a walk together but it turns into a fight because Brandon loses his cool about her affair. In a fit of jealousy (ref Mr Brightside?) he murders her, spurred on by a 'if I can't have her no one will' kind of emotion. I think he strangles her because in live performance including the recent Glastonbury he changes the lyrics 'she couldn't scream while I held her close' to 'she kicked and screamed whilst I held her throat'...which I think is just so cool but ANYWAY! Midnight Show tells the story of the murder though...then in Jenny, the police have been alerted and have arrested Brandon on suspicion of murder and he's protesting, saying that she was a friend of his, why would he murder her? And that he didn't have a motive so it's stupid...they have been holding him for ages and he has a right to be let free as there is no evidence etc. But the police aren't being fooled hence the whispering in his ear...I know what you're doing here (my fave line!!)...creates such a sinister feel you can just picture the scene so vividly with all the blue police sirens flashing and Brandon trying to get out of it and getting really stressed!! This is one of my fave songs on Hot Fuss and I don't know if anyone saw Glasto coverage but it was so cool at the beginning Brandon said ' Jenny was a friend of mine...she was...she waaas....she waas...' and it was awesome, he got the tone of voice perfect- pleading, kind of like a child would. try and find it on youtube! Sorry about my rambling but that's my interpretation! x |

| The Killers – Jenny Was a Friend of Mine Lyrics | 18 years ago |

midnight show- he murders his girlfriend (strangles/suffocates her?) cos he thinks shes been cheating on him and hes uncontrollably jealous- then he chucks her body into the sea. he thinks he has a chance of getting away with it because so many people are 'trying to help me cope' so dont seem to even consider that he's murdered his gf jenny- police catch up with him, arrest him, are interrogating him and he's trying to squirm his way out of it by saying why would i kill one of my friends etc- they think he's the murderer but hes denying it and saying that they hav to release him cos theyve been questioning him all day and stuff LOVE them both! |

| The Killers – Bones Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| just a thought- you know brandon flowers listened to the smiths when growing up- naturally they are prob a big influence, i know he has said they were on hot fuss. check out Pretty Girls Make Graves in The Smiths section- it's quite similar. anyone considered that it could be the girl saying 'Don't you wanna come with me...' (the chorus), as in the girl is the one trying to lead the guy into no strings sex and he is reluctant cos he wants something more/isn't interested? maybe he is shy about sex and stuff or feels guilty about it for some reason, maybe regarding religion? it's so open to interpretation that whilst it's a great song, it's terribly frustrating! but then I guess if we knew exactly what brandon was thinking of when writing this it would ruin the fun! | |

| The Killers – Glamorous Indie Rock and Roll Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Glamorous Indie rock'n'roll is what I need (glamourous- satirical?) It's in my soul, it's what I need (he actually does) Indie rock'n'roll, it's time (time to stop trying to act out the whole 'indie scene' as he actually truly loves the music he loves, mainstream or not, indie or not...whatever and is fed up with the fakers) Two of us Flipping through a thrift store magazine (him and gf in the 'indie' thrift store) She plays the drums, I'm on tambourine (he's just become her kinda sidekick to make her look better...also can I just say I love the mini tambourine part here!) Bet your, your bottom dollar on me (hmm not sure about this bit? maybe along same lines that she's just using him and he cant be bothered anymore) It's Indie rock'n'roll for me It's Indie rock'n'roll for me It's all I need It's Indie rock'n'roll for me (what they all say in the 'scene' but it means more to him) In a clutch (caught up in this scene thing) I'm talking every word for all the boys (kinda feeling pressured to show his knowledge of 'indie' stuff to impress them) Electric girls with worn down toys (ooh er) Make it up, break it up, what do you care Oh what do you care? (just poser girls who don't really care about the music they just want to look cool) I take my twist with a shout (love this line- again I think it's like...it's about more than just an image to me) A coffee shop with a cause, then I'll freak you out (gonna break out of this fake scene and she'll be left confused cos doesn't get it) No sex, no drugs, no life, no love When it comes to today (gonna quit the image thing) Stay if you wanna love me, stay (he's saying to his gf...if you genuinely love me and want to be with me then stick with me/you shouldn't care if i don't want to be a part of your image...OR...could be what his gf is saying to him...like if you want to stay with me then you have to stay a part of this 'cool indie scene'..either work! Oh don't be shy, let's cause a scene Like lovers do on silver screens Let's make it yeah, we'll cause a scene (again either bf-gf, or gf-bf....gf wants to look cool in front of the others in the indie 'scene' and pretend that they hav a kinda hollywood romance thing going on...bf wants her gf to break free from trying to be cool so they can hava proper relationship) It's Indie rock'n'roll for me It's Indie rock'n'roll for me It's all I need It's Indie rock'n'roll for me In a clutch I'm talking every word for all the boys It's Indie rock'n'roll for me It's all I need Makin' up, breakin' up, what do you care What do you care? It's Indie rock'n'roll for me ( hes saying that he loves indie too, but he really loves it for the music, not just the image that comes with it) Two of us Flipping through a thrift store magazine It's Indie rock'n'roll for me It's all I need Makin' up, breakin' up, what do you care What do you care? It's Indie rock'n'roll for me can i just say i LOVE this song!!! and I do think it's kinda taking the piss but also is saying that indie rock'n' roll is awesome!! if you actually genuinely love the music that is and are not just pretending cos you think its 'cool' to say you don't like music just cos its popular...which i dont get cos surely some of the 'popular' music must be pretty darn good else why would it be so popular? ah well haha, this song could be taken loads of ways...its that good! x |

I change my mind like everyday but atm this is what I'm thinking!! Guy has grown up in a small town and now his childhood sweetheart is about to do what they always dreamt of doing together and move out to the city. he is having to choose between his town and his girlfriend...can you read my mind? meaning...do you know how much I want to come with you..but do you understand why I'm hesitating? On the corner of main street just tryin' to keep it in line you say you wanna move on and you say I'm falling behind (girl has called relationship off because she wants to move on and get out of the small town and he doesn't seem ready to take the jump....so hes just loitering around reminiscing on their past together) can you read my mind? can you read my mind?--I don't want to lose you I never really gave up on breakin' out of this two-star town(he's always dreamt of getting out and seeing the world) I got the green light (perhaps his family etc hav agreed and support his dream to travel but there's something stopping him...maybe the past he has there) I got a little fight (having to convince/persuade family) I'm gonna turn this thing around (not going to lose the girl he loves) can you read my mind? can you read my mind?--I want to come with you but I'm struggling with having to finally leave after all this time The good old days the honest man the restless heart the promised land (dreams of travelling) a subtle kiss that no one sees (their past together-innocent) a broken wrist and a big trapeze (have to take the risk) Oh well I don't mind if you don't mind coz I don't shine if you don't shine before you go (he doesn't 'shine' if the one he loves doesn't so he's supporting her final decision to leave as he wants her to be successful and happy) can you read my mind? it's funny how you just break down waitin' on some sign (realisation that he's lost what's most important to him) I pull up to the front of your driveway with magic soakin' my spine (determination to bring back their love and not lose it) can you read my mind? can you read my mind?---I'm not going to lose you The teenage queen the loaded gun the drop dead dream the chosen one a southern drawl (perhaps as they are getting older they are getting bored with the insular life and need to break free else they will prob get into trouble and lose sight of their dreams) a world unseen a city wall and a trampoline (jump over the wall to the wider world) Oh well I don't mind if you don't mind coz I don't shine if you don't shine before you jump tell me what you find when you read my mind (before you go, can you see how much it's hurting me to see you leaving when I've still apprehensive) Slippin in my faith until I fall (faith that the relationship will be rekindled) you never returned that call (she's trying to block him out and move on) woman, open the door don't let it sting I wanna breathe that fire again (he wants their old love back) She said I don't mind if you don't mind coz I don't shine if you don't shine (she doesn't want to lose him either but she has to get out...she's saying to him to come with her and share in her dream cos she doesnt mind as shes happiest when he is and wants to see him living his dream too) put your back on me put your back on me put your back on me (I'll support you cos I know this is a huge step for you to take so trust me) (ooooooo) The stars are blazing like rebel diamonds cut out of the sun (stars symbolise hope for future together outside their small town....rebel diamonds- they are the rebels in a way as have broken away from the tradtional family way of life- moving away from security) can you read my mind? (I'm glad I have you back and that we are living this dream together like we always said we would) |

A WHOLE VERSE IS MISSED OUT!!!!! I can't do the talk, like the talk on the tv, And I can't do a love song, like the way it's meant to be, I can't do everything, but I'd do anything for you, I can't do anything cept be in love with you it comes before 'all I do is miss you' honestly!!! also it is 'all I do is kiss you through the bars of a rhyme' as in the only way he can express his love for her is through his lovesong for her and the love that they have lost...its the most amazing song ever and I can't even begin to explain how much it means to me. |

| The Killers – Romeo and Juliet (Dire Straits cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I saw this on Live From Abbey Road---It was AMAZING...can't begin to explain how much I loved it! One of my favourite songs of all time...but the line is All I do is kiss you through the bar of a rhyme...meaning he can only express his feelings for Juliet through his love song. Check out the song meanings in the Dire Straits section...legendary band...Brandon did so well though. x | |

sorry i was wrong i think it is 'turning saints into the sea' now on another listen. I don't agree with fez i don't think its anything about gays. I think its that hes in love with this girl who he met and they shared a kiss and he really thought it would go further...like they had chemistry and all..but either shes a prostitute or is with another man and hes gettin really worked up about it/scared of losing her which is why in his mind everything is gettin mucked up and hes really paranoid- have u seen the vid? cos its pretty explanatory as to what the songs about. also no i dont think all the killers songs sound the same- they r all completely different so i dunno where that has come from! and i also think that brandon flowers wants everyone to be able to relate to the songs in their own way so i dont really think there is a set meaning to the songs- their ambiguity is what strikes me and what i admire the most xxx |

| The Killers – Bones Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i also dont think there are connatations of 'boning' either thats just...no...i think the bones symbolise the guys desire to get deeper than just sex...he wants a meaningful relationship, and also how the girl has killed his fantasies and dreams, leaving him with just this empy, dead skeleton of a realtionship which has no meaning or depth, something like that x | |

| im not too sure theres loads of ideas going through my idea...first ideas im thinking kind of like the guy reli wants to get closer to this girl than hes been with anyone before...i never had a lover etc....and he's finding it hard to let his moral conscience (brandon being mormon etc) about sex not get in the way...also he's got this whole fantasy idea about going swimming in the moonlight with his girl and she's just like...urm no..she blatantly doesn't reli want to get that close to him shes just using him...whereas he wants to get down to the bones...as in way deeper into the relationship...and she rejects him and he's pissed off...i think he's just trying to settle for this girl who he's kinda having a fling type relationship with, nothing meaningful...and she's just made it clear to him that it will never be anything more...although he already reli knew that...'i dont reli like you etc'....sorry its a bit confused but maybe theres some ideas there who knows! i will prob change my mind on it all anyway...great song! x | |

| Ok...yeah it's definitely a love song...as said by brandon etc..I think it's about a guy who goes away a lot (poss brandon on tour if thats true, or maybe off to war or something along those lines) and they are worried that their lover is having an affair because she's left on her own quite a lot and married life isn't what she's expecting...so the guy is telling her how hes never stopped loving her and even takes a picture with him when he goes away to remind him of her eyes etc..and not to 'give the ghost up'- her dream of family life etc as said by someone before...to hang in there cos he'll never stop loving her. they are going through a hard time because of her affair or something she's doing behind his back whilst he's away--'when you come in from nowhere'- 'nowhere' could maybe come from how when the guy asks the girl where she's been when she comes in or whatever she always says 'nowhere'...suspicious...or maybe it symbolises how he no longer seems to be a major part of her life because he's away so much and that he doesn't feel like he knows what she does when he's not with her etc...just about love really and how he doesn't want to lose her...just my first thoughts...will probably change! nice comments before btw helped me along with my theory! sorry its so rambling! x | |
