I love lifehouse! people can find so much meaning in their music, its great stuff. As for this song, like much of the band's music, I feel its about God. I think that "young" refers not necessarily to the age of God but to the relative newness of his relationship with mankind (hince "I wasn't naive"). Then the band goes on to talk about (from God's perspective if you will) the disruption in the relationship and the inability to stop it. This would be a reference to man's sin and the distance that it places between us and God. Then it talks about God's pain (which he can feel by the way) and longing for his creation to understand the love that he holds for them. Some might argue that this humanizes God too much. But I think that this is one of Lifehouse's strengths. They are able to take God, a being who is truly beyond words and human understanding, and convey him in a way that is applicable in the lives of Christians and non-Christians alike. Christians are probably more likely to jump to the spiritual conclusions, but everyone can enjoy this music. God bless!! - Cathy |
