I think the fact that this song is about taking advantage of a drunk girl is why it's named Me vs. Maradona vs. Elvis, because both Maradona & Elvis used to find girls in bars, get them drunk, & take advantage of them. And in this, he's not sure whether or not he really enjoys it, whether or not he enjoys faking everything, & not meaning it when he holds these girls. |

I think everyone can relate to this song. It is SO reminiscent of that nervous shaky feeling on a date, or when you're around someone you like. "I'm wishing my life away with these things I'll never say" I think that means that she knows she'll never have the courage to tell this guy these things she's imagining, that she wants to marry him, so what's the point in dreaming about it? She should just get the real truth out; that she is falling for him. They date; she wants to blow this guy away she knows how much he is worth it "what's wrong with my tongue? these words keep slipping away!" She's embarrassed to tell him just how much he means to her, because she's scared of not being perfect for him. I think the bit towards the end "lalalalalalala" sounds happier, because he wasn't freaked out by these things she told him. |

I take two meanings from it. 1. It's a girl, presumably Avril, who is completely in love with this boy. She doesn't want to talk about it, she can't explain it, she just knows he's the only one she'd be with til the end. He's the only one who brings her back when she's come undone. She wants to know everything, what this means, because she's so overwhelmed by just how much she loves this guy. Yet she still doesn't even know much about him. But she wants to. She just wants to cry in front of him, because he can't see how much she's in love with him. ---------------------------------------------- 2. A girl & a guy who were dating break up due to circumstances out of their control, like maybe one of them is moving away for a while or something. Basically, they didn't want to break up. Now that they're able to date again, they aren't sure who should make the move. "Today's the day I pray that we make it through." This girl just wants them to pull through whatever trouble they had. I think it's symbolic that she repeats & repeats "I'm in love with you" at the end, because she's finally realizing that that is the reason she can't let this guy slip away. "When I come undone, you bring me back again, back under the stars, back into your arms" I think that's her basically saying he is always 100% there for her, & that always makes her love him even more. This song's pretty meaningful for me. Particularly when I'm thinking of my 2nd interpretation of it. I don't know if he'll ever read this, but you know we're stronger than that. I love you. |

I think it's this guy who has completely messed things up with his girlfriend. It's just some stupid thing he said, & now he's completely regretting it. She wants to leave, even though it's breaking her heart, but he convinces her he can turn it around. Now she is waiting on an explanation/apology from this guy, part of her wants to leave, but another part that loves him makes her stay. So he can't find a way to put it, so he writes this letter, & he's asking "do you still feel the same way?", like, will we ever be the same again? "I need some more time to fix this problem" - he's begging her to stay. "My life just lost all meaning" - she's told him that she's sick of him or something "I'm dying in this silence" - he loves her so much, & he knows he's screwed up, & he just wants things to be okay, to be like they used to be. He hates that he's messed things up & it's now out of his control. |

One of the best times I listened to this song was when I was walking out of school for my Christmas break, sun was shining, lots of other girls from my school talking & laughing around me, & I was just TOTALLY looking forward to a break from school to have some fun. This song makes me want to go & make some fucking amazing memories right now. The Ataris are one of those rare bands who are comforting in a really special way; they remind you of some of the fantastic memories you have. I owe a lot to them. |

I agree with what AtarisRule said about it being her 8th life :] I imagine it being about a reckless teenager who constantly is taking risks, keeps pushing the limits, until finally he lands himself in hospital. & that's when he realizes how short life is, & how close he came to the end tonight. "it's time that i made things right for the first time, since the last time. let this moment of clarity lift this curse that has been cast upon me." I think this is when he gets a nice letter from someone, or meets a special girl or something ("moment of clarity") and he realizes that risks are okay to take when it's all for fun, but not when it threatens the short time he has. I completely think this is one of the most beautiful & meaningful songs ever written. The line: "I don't quite know how to say how I feel Those three words, are said too much, they're not enough" reminds me of when I told someone I loved them, & they didn't say it back. They didn't realize just how much I meant it. I think this song is just completely about love, & accepting that this is someone who you can't live without, & you need to "do it on your own" to make it with them. But at the same time you need to "just forget the world" & "forget what we're told before we get too old". The couple don't want to be dictated about their relationship, they just love eachother so much that they want to forget what people say before they become one of those boring couples you feel sorry for. |
