I'm probably overthinking the matter. But the lyrics are from the perspective of someone older looking back wistfully on youth. So nne might think of the title as referring to the days between youth and death. |

"One money don't stop the show" was a common expression in R&B circles going back to 1950. It means "one setback should not impede progress".
We'll probably never know, but I wonder if "monkey" is a shortened version of "monkeywrench". |

PS. Another song about Janis Joplin is "Bird Song" by Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter. Joplin was the girlfriend of Ron "Pigpen" McKernan of the Grateful Dead ,for a while. He died of alcoholism. |
