Men at Work – Down Under Lyrics 16 years ago
The BBC's Magazine just did an interpretation of it: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8178913.stm

I also can't believe the nationalism and arrogance surrounding so many Australians posting here. Let's face it, Australia does not have an awful lot of culture and it really is not too different from Britain. The argument that "only Australians can understand Australians and this song" is preposterous.

This is a great song. Not sure what it's about, but I just like listening to it.

It's a harpsichord, played by Joe Boyd. The Wikipedia article on Bryter Layter has lots of info on the songs in teh album.

Liz Phair – Explain It To Me Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this is about how said it is how people put celebrities on pedestals, watching their every move, idolising them. It asks the question of why people do this, what the point is. The whole thing just gives you a sense that Phair hates all that and finds the behaviour sad.

Death Cab for Cutie – The Sound of Settling Lyrics 19 years ago
This is by far their best song. And, boy, can I relate to the lyrics. Most people can. If you can't, you're probably an arrogant casanova dickhead.

Stereolab – Lo Boob Oscillator Lyrics 19 years ago
Sounds like they took a lot of drugs while writing this song then.

I speak some French and while somewhat irreverent, the lyrics do have a certain beautiful quality to them. I like this song a lot.
