I think this song is about Jim Morrison. Jules has stated before he was heavily influenced by him. Makes sense when you consider a lot of the lyrics. "The other side", was a metaphor Jim used a lot. Also "I hate them all, i hate them all. I hate myself, for hating them. So I'll drink some more. I love them all. I'll drink even more. I'll hate them even more than I did before." Is that Jim or what ? "I remember when you came. You told me how to sing. Now it seems so far away. You told me how to say." And that seems like a touching little tribute to Jim. I've never been a huge Neil Young fan but this song is simply beautiful, almost trancendental. The lyrics mesh perfectly with his yearning tone. The chorus, "It's a dream Only a dream And it's fading now Fading away " rings even more powerfully considering Young's advanced age. Couldn't stop listening to it..... |
