Haha modestmousenirvana learn how to spell and use grammer ie taked acid alot and oviously. Anyways I didn't understand this song until I saw the correct lyrics and this whole album seems to be a theme around Death and in a lot of the songs technology and how it is a bad thing. Since I bought the album I saw whenever I hear that "strong cell phone arm" I think of that weird arm in the lyric art. |

@Modest Mousekateer hahahahaha tenserock got me into modest mouse through my first song ever Never Ending Math Equation and makes me see deeper meanings in many of the songs:) Yes this is no doubt the best song on the album.

ModestMouseNirvana I read that interview and its so closeminded to simplify a songs meaning to drugs just because you cannot understand it. I myself am not quite sure of the whole meaning of this song but you probably cannot even say that you know for a fact Issac has ever taken acid. I know opinions are opinions its just I see that narrow minded viewpoint a lot on this sight.Drugs. P.S. In that Interview it mentioned Float On, March Into the Sea, and Missed the Boat |

Dashboards music video goes so much better with this song. I mean it has sargasso sea in it which is described as " which is very salty, is often regarded as being lifeless, though it is home to some seaweed of the genus Sargassum. " I think this song has a deeper meaning but the sargasso is "so salty and mean" |

Hmmmm script kiddie you need to learn how to express yourself in a way that shows you have a writing level above seventh grade. Anyways this whole album is a concept album but the Fly Trapped in a Jar follows on this song i.e. "well we're already dead well it's probably been said that it's always been said" this is a kind of follow up cause if we are made out of dead organisms carbon then we are "Already Dead". I stole this concept from tenserock |

| Modest Mouse – Fire It Up Lyrics

Issac Brocks Interview with Rolling Stones
R.S.Whether you intended it or not, "Fire It Up" will be the stoner anthem of '07.
I.B. My fiancée pointed that one out to me. It wasn't my intention. I was saying "fire it up" in the sense of turning over a car. But I highly approve of stoners and stoner anthems.
R.S. Do you smoke a lot?
I.B. Not a shit-ton -- I'm not stoned right now -- but I tend to get stoned in the evenings to unwind. It can make TV more entertaining.
R.S. What TV shows do you anticipate?
I.B.I watch the same cartoons over and over again. I watch Adult Swim. I watch Futurama repeatedly. Then it's DVDs, and I'm easily amused by crappy comedies. I've seen Super Troopers too many times, and there's a house rule that we're not allowed to watch Beerfest again. |

Hmmmm not really you were talking soda pop is referencing that you sweeten up the truth but never say what you feel just what people want to hear. For example someone is fat and they ask you if they are fat if you say no you are talking soda pop. |

I can hear the cattle but not the hold so I think your wrong on that part. But he does say deserve to die. And as to the meaning of this song I think my cousin was right as in that this is partly about old people retiring to Florida."I stood on my heart supports thinkin’
“Oh my God, I’ll probably have to carry this whole load.”
I couldn’t remember if I tried
I couldn’t remember if I took my brain out, threw it so directly a the goal
I couldn’t remember if I….
I could have my mind erased
And still not know exactly what I don’t already know"
Hmmm heart problems and memory problems i.e. Alzheimers. |

I would agree with camazotzz as in this is a advanced parasites because we all are carbon based life forms and when we die we don't disappear we simply disintegrate into smaller pieces and atoms are not constantly being made so nature recycles and it is true that when we die other things can steal our carbon. We steal carbon when you eat almost anything. For example when you eat a hamburger part of it is glucose and whats the formula for glucose? C6 H12 O6 not getting into stereochemistry:) So in essence you are stealing carbon. Which can be done to you. It is all just a endless cycle "A life long walk to the same exact spot"
P.S. If you are devoutly religious and try to make sense of modest mouse songs just go along with raftmans bogus idea. |

I correct myself its "Well two feet above each of our heads was a fly trapped in a jar" Thats what I heard the last three times I heard this song and it seems to make more sense. Also the last part is "part and parcel" not pardon pardon. Again this was a hard song so good job. |

Ya it is march on you sould change that. Anyways whenever he talks about tails falling off "Oh, the doggone tails, well they fell off
But we just turned back, marched into the sea" I think of the term Seadogs. I think tenserock has a point to. Anyways a great song. |

| Modest Mouse – People as Places as People Lyrics

I keep hearing bark at the door but i dont know.
Anyways I get a meaning as a breakup song the first part is the good part when theyr'e together "Yeah we’re the places that we wanted to go" Then they end their relationship and Issac is upset and doesn't want it to end "‘Cause you’re the places that I wanted to go". Not positive.
I just think of the experience of when you meet a group of people or one person and all everything you do is with them and its a rapid relationship but then you realize you don't know them and it ends. |

I can thankfully say this is the worst song on their new album. This song is ok but I have listened to the whole album through a leak about 8 times and they are back to the good modest mouse not that GNFPWLBN shit so if you haven't heard the new album trust me everything will be ok. |

IT IS (as things got better) and (so not a single one of us will ever leave town) and (its each of our hands was a fly trapped in a jar) its NOT our sneeze got better and NOT so now i think that one of us won't ever leave town and I KNOW he says fly trapped in a jar not our chin and our jaw.......Anyways it was a nice shot I just hate it when people rush to put lyrics up when they obviously didn't put in time
=====================================
Great Song for a Great cd. Anyways Issac mentions Gary in this song and the song before it (We've Got Everything) so I think Gary may have some meaning or reference to something i dont know yet. This cd is amazing they are somewhat back to their roots I got the leak but remember to actually BUY THE CD. |

Who the hell made you the boss?
We placed our chips in all the right spots
But still lost
Any shithead who had ever walked
Could take the ship and do a much finer job
This fit like clothes made out of wasps
Aw, fuck it I guess I lost
He is saying things in between some of those lines I can't hear it and you probably can't either since this is just a leak but there is a lot more to this song. |

Anyways this is a great song and it talks about how many people think we know everything and that we really don't but we make ourselves so we aren't scared or confused. The thing i don't get is anyone in science knows that we don't know anything so i don't see why he is bashing science. Voltaire once said once you realize that we don't know anything you can start to learn. Thats not a qoute just the jist of it. GREAT SONG! |

I liked this song for the sound at first more than anything else. And if the person who showed me this song happens to be reading my comments again ty for introducing me to what once was and hopefully will stay the best band ever |

Straightmobbinak i have listened to this song like 50 more times and have discussed it with someone and i broke it down to your view of this song wow I love MM. Yes modest mouse does totally and tastefully knock on creationism. This song to me relates to NeverEndingMathEquation. I just fing it hilarious to see christians listening to MM new stuff. I read someone interpreting 3rd planet as adam and eve. Ah they hate religion but rip on it in a way that you have to be smart to think about it. |

Diskettes this song is a joke but to say all of Modest Mouse songs are influenced by alcohol is retarded. Hopefully We were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank won't purely be a Good New For People Who Love Bad News Album. This song had no edge in Isaac's voice. Modest Mouse is talented but they have changed too much hopefully this is the only shitty song on the album. DAMN YOU EPIC RECORDS. I agree with seventy nine but I also see this song as some form as an argument
(You've got the harder part, you've got the kinder heart and it's
true.
I've got the easy part, I've got the harder heart ain't this
true.
Right wing, left wing, chicken wing.
It's built on finding the easier ways through.) I see it through someone bitching and you just say sure your right in a sarcastic way. Kind of like a girlfriend saying how your a bad boyfriend and you say "sure yep your right" and it will piss her off even more. Thats just one part of the song I think eleventy and seventynine cleared up the rest. |
