i think this song relates alot to the movie the foutain in that its saying that without death or at least the fear of it there would be not religion. durring the refromation martin luther called the church "the whore of babylon." so satan can be a symbol of death and "the whore of babylon" can be the church or religon in general. hence the lines... But when great Satan's gone, the whore of Babylon She just can't sustain the pressure where it's placed She caves. |

i think this song is being written after a break up. and so hes kind of bitter about love. and how you wish for anything that will distract you from that pain that the other person caused you. your resentful to other happy couples and they make you so angry you want to "destroy" them which is what conor is doing in this song. then is just remembers good times and how they ended and all the changes you have to go through. i imagine someone like speaking the words to the song and they start of slow and quiet. eventually it leads to frustration, anger and screaming and eventually you get to the end of the song where you'll be quietly sobbing the words. because you've some to the realization that just because your romance didnt end well it doesnt mean that love isnt out there. and you should be happy for the other couples and wish them the best of luck and eventually you'll find the person you need to be with. |

i agree with lastgunslinger when they said that its about appreciating everything you love in life. but there is more to it. he kind of sings the sing like hes a litte boy and when your a little boy your dog and your brother are everything to you. and so you appreciate them and they happiness they bring you. bye bye car keys hello sparkles and flies best lines ever. car keys symbolize one of the first major steps into adulthood and all the responsiblities that come with it. sparkles and flies? things that amused you when you were young and things were simple. its just talking about in easier time and how he wishs he could go back to that. i keep them their mine. again talking like a little kid. being able to be ignorant and selfish and care about yourself more than everything and everyone else around you. |
