"That even landlocked lovers yearn/For the sea like navy men." I think that could mean like when you break up someone always says 'there's plenty of other fish in the sea' maybe the reference to sea could have something to do with getting out there, and trying new things, with new people. I agree with most people on here, I think it's firstly about an old man, looking back on his life, when he was carefree and young, and then about the relationship with his partner. Beautiful song. |

The idea i get on this is that it's his ex-wife or ex-fiance getting married. When it says: "People would turn to see who's making the racket It's not the first time" When you get married people put beer cans on the back of the car normally with a "Just married" sign, so if it's not the first time, they could've been married/engaged. And with the reference to fish/sperm, maybe the break up was caused by impotence? Anyway, that's my view. Awesome song though, one of my fav's from Death Cab, i love that echo-y, creepy feel you get from it. |
