Lately I’ve been listening to this song a lot, and I thought that it was about, like, a relationship that isn’t judged well by society. Possibly, an interracial relationship, or a gay relationship, hence all the judging. Here’s my interpretation. He means the perspective of whoever, and she (just to cause no confusion) is who it’s addressed to. “If you're under the impression I'm alright I guess you never noticed I guess you might have known I've been holding this together for so long But I guess you might have noticed Well, I guess you...” Basically saying that she thinks he’s all right, maybe she didn’t know him well enough to realize he’s not, or maybe she did and chose to ignore it. He’s tired of trying to hold their relationship together with out any credit to doing it. “The beast within the burden is all mine A product of his father A slave to his pride” He has to fight off the bad burdens of their relationship. I was thinking it could be either him against society, or him against himself. I think it’s both, but in this bit it makes more sense if it’s his own beast, because of it being “a product of his father”. It’s his own thoughts that are bringing all the bad things about their relationship out, but he can’t stop it because he’s been fighting against everyone for so long, (a slave to his prider) but now he’s finally realizing it wasn’t worth it. “I feel I need to reveal my true stripes But the bitch behind all this trouble it Waits behind the wind to find out” He needs to tell the truth about how he really feels about this relationship. But everyone who was causing trouble is waiting behind all the pressure their causing (wind) to hear that they were right. “You set me up to leave me You wanted to feel Shallow love, shallow lives With every word, you speak Of what you wanted from me Wanted from me, yeah” She’s trying to keep their relationship going when she’s just going to bail out on him. She wanted to experiment with their relationship and having a nonexistent love, and spending their lives pointlessly trying to fight society’s judgment. She’s always telling him what she wanted from him – to stay with her, and not let everyone else get to them – despite never really loving him. ”I'm sinking more and more into my lies Now home is just a pinprick in the vastness of my life” He’s getting deeper into the lies he told everyone, keeping the image of their relationship up for pride. He’s not comfortable with anything anymore, because he’s tangled himself so deeply into this situation. ”Feel the pressure, feel the pleasure Feel the pain, you're not alone Feel the pleasure, feel the pain Feel the pain” Kind of straightforward, The pressure from everyone else, the pleasure of their controversial relationship, the pain outside, and within it, the girl keeps telling him he’s not alone in it, and to look on the bright side, but he only feels the pain of keeping everything together. “Realizations, I am not what you thought I was You change directions every time someone judges us In moderation, what was once us now never was You change directions every time someone judges us” He’s telling her that he isn’t a stupid puppet she can use, and he doesn’t love her like she thought. He notices how fickle she is, every time they’re judged, and is tired of it. The loving relationship they supposedly had is being clouded by all their problems, and now this is the end (he’s breaking up with her). |

| I don't understand this song that much, but I love it. It's so beautiful, and it might be one of my favourites off of Santi so far. I love the line "Are we wasting time, or is it wasting us?" The lyrics on this album are really top-notch TAI... | |

Basically, in my opinion, this song is about a guy breaking up with a girl, because he thinks that he looks desperate being with her, and he regrets it because he can’t stop thinking about her, and tries to block it out with sex. He wants to go back to her, but keeps telling himself that he’s not desperate, so if he went back, he would look desperate in her eyes, and everyone else’s. “I'm sleeping my way out of this one With anyone who will lie down” The guy is on rebound. He’s just going to have enough sex, with anyone who will do the job, to recover, out of the heartbreak from his relationship. ”I'll be stuck fixated on one star When the world is crashing down” He’s going to just keep thinking about the girl who he just broke up with, while his world is destroyed because of it. ”I keep telling myself I keep telling myself I'm not the desperate type” He’s reassuring himself he’s not desperate, and he’s not going back to her, or else he would have long ago. Also, this means that she’s not the best girl for him, or so he has been told, and just “knows” that she’s not right for him, because he isn’t that desperate (*scoff*). ”But you've got me looking in through blinds I keep telling myself I keep telling myself I'm not the desperate type” This part can be figurative, or literal. Literally, it could mean he’s looking through blinds while she’s changing, and he just keeps reminding himself, that he’s not desperate (though he is), or figuratively it could mean, she has him only seeing one part of the picture, so he believes that he’s not desperate. Or he thinks that she’s making him think that he’s not too good for her. Not seeing the “superior” part in him. She has him half blinded by his passionate love. I think it makes more sense literally. ”I’m sitting out dances on the wall” He spends his dances alone, watching everyone else. ”Trying to forget everything that isn't you” Because he wants to pretend that he never broke up with her, and they are having their dance together. ”I'm not going home alone ’Cause I don't do too well on my own” He’s not going to go home alone, because either: 1. He can’t get some alone, or 2. He’ll get depressed, thinking of her, which could lead to bad stuff. ”The only thing worse than not knowing” The only thing worse than not knowing if you like me, or not… ”Is you thinking that I don't know” Is you thinking that I don’t know if you like me or not. Which basically mean, it’s bad enough that he doesn’t know if she likes him or not (which she wouldn’t after he dumped her…he’s just making the illusion that she does because he’s so in love) is letting her know that he thinks that she doesn’t hate him. ”I'm having another episode” He’s getting depressed again (as he was at he beginning) ”I just need a stronger dose” He needs a better fuck. I love this song. The meaning is whacked, but a realistic situation, I guess. It’s great to listen to, and can teach some people lessons not to dump people, just because of their social status. It encourages promiscuous behavior, as well, but still…I love Fall Out Boy. |

These lyrics are absolute creative genius in my opinion. This is basically about a girl who has a relationship with one guy. The person writing this song is dating her as well, because he loves her so much, and she’s so easy to persuade. He gets upset, because she isn’t giving him the adequate attention that he requires, and basically vows revenge. Here’s my take on the song: “Drink down that gin and kerosene, and come spit on bridges with me. Just to keep us warm.” Loosen up (have a drink or two;)), and come hang out (*coughsexcough*) with me, so we can keep our relationship alive. ”Then light a match to leave me be. Light a match to leave, me be.” Then you give me artificial emotions, to keep our relationship existent, and leave me alone in the cold while you sleep with another guy. ”And I keep my jealousy close, 'cause it's all mine.” This is sort of scolding her. I have jealously, and keep it close, because it’s mine, and only mine. He’s hinting that she should be closer to him, and stop seeing this other guy, because he’s hers, and all hers. ”And if you say this makes you happy, then I'm not the only one lying.” Okay, so they are both lying, and saying this relationship makes them happy. The guy wants more attention, and the girl is confused, and stuck between decisions, not happy because she can’t choose the right guy, before things get messy. ”Keep quiet,” Don’t say anything (she’s dating another person) about this affair. ”Nothing comes as easy as you.” You’re really easy. Anyone can sleep with you. You have a difficult time saying no. ”Can I lay in your bed all day?” Can I sleep with you forever? He’s asking this to himself and her, which he does repeatedly during th song. Will you let me be yours forever? Will I be yours forever if you keep this attitude up? ”I'll be your best kept secret and your biggest mistake.” I’ll be a secret, but I’m going to be a mistake, either because: (1) the guy is going to find out, from (a) just walking in on them, or spying, or (b)the guy telling him, because he’s upset the girl won’t pay him all the attention he deserves. (2) the guy she’s cheating on her boyfriend with is going to do everything to make her life a living hell, so she’ll be with him, and just him ”The hand behind this pen relives a failure everyday.” The person writing the song makes the same mistakes (mentioned above) all the time, or daily. ”So wear me like a locket around your throat.” So keep me close to your heart. ”I'll weigh you down; I'll watch you choke.” I’ll make you feel guilty, and watch you suffer. ”You look so good in blue.” You look great sad. You deserve it I love this song. The lyrics have such an angst-y flavor. The actual song is so nice, and upbeat. It’s amazing, that almost every band I like has a weird song like this, which talks about love in such an unusual way. It makes you think they can’t, or couldn’t get dates, so they would resort to the lowest means. The kind of love where you love someone, but want to see them hurt. It’s something that most people would feel more towards an ex. I have felt an opposite feeling, where I just wanted my crush to hurt me, so I would stop loving him. I love the lyrics. The song is such an easy listen, and I love how it changes tempo a lot. Patrick’s voice…yummy =]]. I think the title ties in nicely. Besides it being a quote from…”Dirty Dancing” [?] I think, it does relate to the song, or at least to me. People don’t keep babies in corners alone, because they need attention. People love babies. Nobody would put a baby in a corner, and leave them there alone. “Nobody Puts Baby in a Corner”. Then you look a little closer to the song, and realize that it means ”nobody doesn’t give me attention (evil laugh…sorry:/)”. Fall Out Boy has the most interesting lyrics, and I love to look at them, and solve them. If you originally hear the song, it just sounds normal. Then look up the lyrics, and you can hear dark undertones, and pleads for help. Okay, I’m over exaggerating, but I love this band. They do take a while to completely understand, and the lyrics always put the pieces into the puzzle. I always used to consider them a pop/rock/emo band, until I finally grasped them (just recently). Now, there’s no going back. |

Oh, God. I had this typed out, and my computer spazzed. Now I am doing it again. If you can’t tell, I really love this band. I think that this is about a guy, and a girl who are friends, but want to go a little further. ”Oh, did I mention when I see you it stings like hell? To the fact that we could have something that'll never happen.” Whenever I see you, it hurts, because I know we’ll never be. ”This table has taken a turn for the worst. Rock bottom and over the edge” Everything is going HORRIBLE, because of this attraction ”well it's not like it hurts that much anyway.” It doesn’t hurt horribly, because we’re such great friends. Or it could be a sarcastic statement. Probably the former, considering what has been said before. ”Upside down and inside out.” Everything has become so weird. It’s like a parallel universe, all because of that one feeling. ”When I leave here I'm going alone.” Once I get out of this city, I’m not going to contact you, so the tempt is removed. ”This balance has weighed out our hearts desire.” The in between of friends, and a little more has caused their hearts to take second thoughts on the situation. “I'm trying to make it alone.” I’m going to try to live without you at all. ”But I'm dying, I'm dying to touch.” I really want to be together. It’s taking everything that is in me not to be. I love the lines: “Attention! Attention! May I have all your eyes and ears to the front of the room, if only, if only for one second. Will you hear what I have to say?” I always feel like that. My practical theme song. I think every once in a while, someone is going to feel the need to scream out these lyrics. This is such a great song, such a great band…TAI for life. |

Personally, I'm offended by the concept that this is about an interracial couple. That is so close minded. I doubt that The Academy Is... would write about something like that. Interracial couples are no longer considered abnormal (my parents being one) and this song was written recently, so why would they write about something that would offend a wide range of people? I agree with the thought that it is about breaking an addiction. It talks about how a lie is a lie to everybody, and it will always be a lie (“lies are lies, in everybody’s eyes” ect.). It’s about inner conflict, in my eyes. “I don’t believe you” intertwines nicely with the previous explanation. Lies are lies to me, and they are to you, I know you’re lying. “ When the summer is gone It won’t be long ‘til someone’s got the fever creeping inside” After summer is finished, you’re going to go back to the addiction, because you don’t have the focus you did in the summer. I find I have better focus in the summer, when everything just feels good. When you have time, and fun activities to replace your addiction. ”When the city is moving and your eyes they are a moving and you just can't fight that feeling but you said it's the last time.” When everything is busy, and you’re so busy you can’t think straight, you’ll feel the need to go back to your addiction, even though, you vowed to stop. “Well they promised you Now you see the truth This is the last time” You promised you wouldn’t go back. Now you see how you keep breaking it. This is THE last time. “And everyone’s got the fever (lies are lies, lies are lies, lies are lies) Lies are lies” Everyone has something that they want to stop, but they all lie to themselves. I like this song. Its meaning is very general, and can mean anything you want it to. It relates to anything, and Beckett’s voice is amazing in this song. |

^^^ I agree. The lyrics, and the way they are sung just say that. I love this song. It seems more to me like a supreficial love. Trying ot control someone beutiful with money, power, and threats. "You can't escape now I've got you locked inside this room You know I tip good And soon, you will love me too" The person has their object of affection locked in the room (a basement I assume). They are talking about how they will give them enough money for their love to love them back. "Don't be upset now You know I get angry too" DOn't get upset about this situation, or I will get angry and... "Don't make me hurt you It's true, no one hears you in this room" I will hurt you if you don't smarten up,a nd act happy. No one can help you now. "This is what you get When you're talking back baby" I assume the person went through with their previous threat. "I never bounce a check So give it up baby" The object of affection is trying to make excuses, that the person wioll give them a fake check, but it's not helping them, because their kidnapper "never bounces a check" "Open up your eyes I want to watch you cry" Can't you see, I want to see you cry. "Come on come on The camera's on" This could be figurative, or literal. If it's figurative, it means, I'm watching, its time, if its literal, it could mean that the kidnapper is actually taping the victim. "Now I'm a changed man But as a boy I was so true" He's not true anymore. Less innocent, and fulkl of intergerity. The world has shown him that money, and power can buy him love (wrong). "The world can't protect you Not like money will" People won't have your back, but you can always fall back on money. "You want some bread now?" The kidnapper holds the victim without any food, the victim is asking. Duh. "Just promise me you'll never make me believe you" I'll save you, if your preachings don't slither their way into my conscieness. Or in simpler words, if you don't convince me to let you out, I'll let you live. "It's true: no one hears you in this room" Again nothing can help you, it's just you and me. The title of this song fits nicely. I love this song, I can hear it ove,r and over again. Its meaning is really creepy, but I love it. Cobra Starship is rocking some serious sock, right now. |

| The Academy Is... – Almost Here Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Everyone here has got it, I think. But in my opinion it's more about all the friends, possibly even their parents[?], who they liked, but wouldn't suport them in their choice. After they started music there became a rift between them, but they still missed each other. Now that they are big, their friends came back to them, and they don't want to forgive them, even though they really misssed them. When he talks about his pride, he's talking about not being to harsh on them, for being wrong, because they've previously told them a million times. Then the whole "this isn't like us anyways" is talking about how it's not like them to be fighting. "I'm on my feet" I'm busy, I'm working, "Our time is almost here" it's going to pay off. I have this song on my myspace profile www.myspace.com/absolutelyallayna Go check it out. Awesome song, awesome band. TAI= Love. Peace. |
