| I had actually believed that part was talking about her basically prosituting herself for her "fix." Thats just how I took it though. :) | |

| I think he is singing this song to a loved one who has a bad unhealthy drug addiction. | |
| The Fray – How To Save A Life Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Step one, you say, "We need to talk." He walks, you say, "Sit down, it's just a talk." He smiles politely back at you; You stare politely right on through, Some sort of window to your right As he goes left and you stay right Between the lines of fear and blame, You begin to wonder why you came. Shes trying to talk things out with him and hes being distant as usual because of all the "bitterness" in the relationship. Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend somewhere along in the bitterness And I would have stayed up with you all night Had I known how to save a life. "Save a life" I believe is their life together not a solo persons life but the life they have built within each other. Let him know that you know best, 'Cause after all, you do know best. Try to slip past his defence Without granting innocence Lay down a list of what is wrong, Things you told him all along Pray to God he hears you, And pray to God he hears you. Trying to make him listen and understand what she is saying in an attempt to get some type of closure. Shes trying to break through his stubborness and difficulty and make him hear her. As he begins to raise his voice, You lower yours and grant him one last choice. Drive until you lose the road Or break with the ones you've followed He will do one of two things: He will admit to everything Or he'll say he's just not the same, And you'll begin to wonder why you came. This is the most difficult one to analyze but I believe she is giving him one last chance to realize what hes been doing wrong before she calls it quits. Drive until you lose the road Or break with the ones you've followed I believe relates to keeping on the same track to destruction with the relationship or break up and leave. Overall I definitely think this song is about a conversation to break up and its very possible that the reasons may be that the guy is depressed/addicted so much so that he doesnt realize what hes losing. |

May very well be my favorite song ever ... This song means nothing about abortion in my opinion. I believe this song is definitely about suicide and I also believe the song relates to a loss of innocence in the world. I think hes trying to describe how gritty life really is and the reference to a "young mans heart" is a reference to the innocence of your younger years before people are really exposed to all the crap that corrupts humanity. The unborn child is just a reference to the same and hes conveying the message to keep aware of the bad in the world and to not let it get the best of you like he feels it has for him. He feels like an outcast and like no one has ever really understood how he feels or bothered to care what he thinks. The fact that he has gotten that far proves that point that he feels misunderstood. I think by writing this song the writer probably saved themself from suicide and without writing they probably would have followed through. Great tune! |

| Theory of a Deadman – Santa Monica Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I disagree with the death concept. This is a breakup, not a death. A death is taking one or two lines too literally and the overall song doesnt make any sense if that were the case. "And when she said Don’t you wish you were dead like me" This in my opinion is just a repeat of something he said to her being used as a stab at him because it was probably an argument where he said "She was dead" as in she was acting heartless about it. Which is why he feels the whole thing is unfair, "He deserved.." which makes it apparent he feels he was cheated out of the deal. "She fills my bed with gasoline You think I wouldn’t notice" This is the only part Im torn about but I think he's expressing how painful it is to sleep alone now that its "tainted" with her and memories. Even so much as maybe its a perfume or some kind of scent he can't be rid of. He "wouldnt notice" because he is numb to the world because of how depressed he is. The bed isn't on fire and gasoline in itself isn't really a symbol of hell. Overall I believe this song is about a breakup that he feels he wasn't able to really prove to her who he really was and how bad he needs her. He feels cheated and hes coming to realize that she will never return and understand how he feels. I believe "Santa Monica" has little or nothing to do with this song, it probably just had a nice ring to it. Various other artists have used Santa Monica lyrically as well its just a pleasant sounding city name in my opinion. |
