| The Dubliners – Paddy's Sick Note Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Fantastic for a party piece, since it's sung a capella. | |
| Fionn Regan – The Cowshed Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Probably my favourite song on the album, the emotion is expressed so clearly. Agree with setsunamudou732 on the meaning. | |
| T. Rex – Get It On (Bang A Gong) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song sounds eerily like it was written for Hermione Granger... I mean, who else wears a ("black") cloak, has "the teeth of a hydra" and a "halo"...?!! Seriously, though, great song. | |
| Damien Rice – Steal a Mule Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Yeah, I agree. The lyrics are too perfect for the film to not have been written especially for it. Such a cute song, and, even though I'm a massive Damien Rice fan, I wish he'd include more stuff like this and 'Cross-Eyed Bear' on his albums. It's absolutely lovely. | |
| The Blizzards – Fantasy Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Is this about drugs? Seems like he's describing all the symptoms of withdrawal! | |
| Fionn Regan – Be Good or Be Gone Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think that the direction of the 'be good or be gone' changes after every verse. Like, the first time we hear it, she's a child actress, being told by producers and agents to 'be good or be gone', because she won't make it if she's not good enough. The second verse, as luey_baby mentioned, is probably a reference to a film, so Rose would be mid-career by now, and striving for perfection. If it's not good, she doesn't want to hear of it. Next, she's selling all her things, probably moving to a city to make a name for herself. Her old stuff isn't good enough for her anymore, so, again, 'Be good or be gone'. The last verse puzzles me. The 'aerial view' implies that she's now looking down on everyone that she used to know in Bray. Maybe it's the inspiration that came to our singer-songwriter from the story of Rose, and since he's trying to make it, and she has supposedly made it, he thinks that by emulating her, he too can achieve greatness? So, in effect, he's telling himself to be good or be gone. Loff this song!!!!!!!! |

| The Frames – The Blood Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Don't diss this, but am I the only one reminded of Harry Potter, here?! Seriously. Harry totally lost his role within the trio to Hermione (with the honest face) in the last two books. All his heroes left him. The 'wise' men, that is the people with authority (Dumbledore and Scrimgoeur- however the frick you spell his name), they were all defeated, and made their escape, leaving him to deal with the burden. Then the insignificance of blood purity to him, even though that's what the whole war is about... and don't even get me started on that note! Okay, I'm a nerd. But please say so if you happen to agree! |

I don't know what I did before I found this on the frames' myspace page. It so gorgeous. I love how the last line varies from the chorus a bit; I don't have the exact words but it's something like: "Falling slowly Sing your melody I'll sing it loud..." |

I love this song. Especially to sing along with. They should get Lisa Hannigan back in (like with Lay Me Down) to record this with Glen. Harmony really compliments it. Great lyrics, too. Good insight, Niteflite01. "To die with you upon the vine..." Just beautiful. |

| The Frames – Rise Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It's the most Damien Rice-ey of all their songs. I love the darkness and triumph of it all... I'm not a goth though, I swear! I really love it. It kind of reminds me of Cold Water from DR's first album. As songs, they're not very alike, but they're similar in genre, and the use of piano and strings and stuff. Just my two-cents. | |

| Based on those lyrics, I'd say childhood sweetheart. | |
| Paul McCartney – Wonderful Christmastime Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I usually side with the original, but Tom McRae's version is ten times better. | |
| Damien Rice – Eskimo Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Yeah, drugs is the first thing that came to mind for me after I heard it. Definitely, his eskimo friend provides him with some sort of mental relief. And you have to admit, those lyrics could have been written by a stoner. It sounds like he's going insane, and the tone in which he sings it also sounds like someone on the verge of mental breakdown. I see him curled against a wall, in fetal position, rocking back and forth, noting all around him and just thinking "empty thoughts" grasping for release. Whenever he feels the beginnnigs of insanity "washing in on top of" him, he turns to some good eskimo lovin' - whatever provides that kind of relief, drugs are my best guess. | |
| Damien Rice – Animals Were Gone Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I interpret it as our despairing male character, who never appreciated what he had while with his lover, suddenly wanting her back at her departure. Having woken up to an empty bed, he notes that "the animals were gone". I think Damien's trying to convey that the animals represent happiness. When someone is happy, they appreciate the beauty of nature all around them. The beautiful animals that poetically represented his joy were no longer around. And he REALLY wants her back. He begins promising her the stereotypical happy family - the "house and some boxers on the lawn". He promises her that all of the little things that caused them to grow apart - her depression and her gining weight - don't matter anymore, because he's realised how much he loves her. Beautiful song, and I especially love the Damien-esque closing. |
