Alright, this one will probably sound a lot different to what I've been reading so far. Jesse actually stated this at one of their gigs I went to. He told us that the song was about a parasite, similar to Spinochordodes tellinii, which eats its way in to grasshoppers and produces a toxin that forces them to crawl out in to the open so that they are eaten by birds. I can definitely see this in the lyrics with its many suicidal tones. To me the song is from the grasshopper's point of view, going delusional and eventually being taken away by the bird in the last verse 'Well you're my favorite bird and when you sing I really do wish that you'd wear my ring No matter what they say, I am still the king Now the storm is coming, the storm is coming in' |
