| Explosions in the Sky – Have You Passed Through This Night? Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This is the most beautiful and incredible song I've ever heard. Cried the first time I heard it, I'm not that big of a softie, but this song is fucking powerful. The drum break is to fucking die for. | |

| The new album is one of their best yet (probably my favorite right behind Lonesome Crowded West). I've listened to it probably about 6-7 times now. Their is a lot of layering with instruments just like good news, but there is a lot more of Isaac's harsh screaming, and the original drummer is back, which creates a great combination. My only beef with the new album is there are only about 2 slow/melancholy songs, but the two that are there are really great. And if you claiming any band to be a "sell out" go listen to Tool's song "Hooker with a Penis". Fuckwits. | |

This is my favorite song off the new album. To me this song is about the "Circle of Life" but instead of it being positive, Isaac views it as being an ultimately fatalistic concept... "There's no work in walking in to fuel the talk I would grab my shoes and then away I'd walk Through all the stubborn beauty I start at the dawn Until the sun had fully stopped Never walking away from Just a way to pull apart Dehydrate back into minerals A life long walk to the same exact spot" The "stubborn beauty" could be life. (Life is often regarded as beautiful but in this case it is "stubborn" because it never completely ends). Dehydrate into minerals doesn't seem to be metaphoric at all. A life long walk into the same exact spot again could mean we are destined, or doomed, to end up in the same spot we began. Non-existence perhaps? The parting of the sensory Carbon's anniversary Just part it again if you please Carbon's anniversary The parting of the sensory, I think, refers to the parting of our senses when we die. This would in turn be Carbon's anniversary, since we are carbon based life forms, and our material bodies would "return" to the earth. (Does that make sense?) The old old mystery could refer to the old mystery of the concept of eternal life, the circle of life, etc. "Who the hell made you the boss If you say what to do I know what not to stop If you were the ship then who would ever get on The weather changed it for the worse And came down on us like it had been rehearsed And like we hope, but change will surely come And be awful for most but really good for some I took a trip to the exact same spot We pulled the trigger, but we forgot to cock And every single shot" Boss could be referring to a higher power which came up with this concept of "the circle of life" or life itself. Isaac shows his dissatisfaction with the concept by saying "Who the hell made you the boss? We placed our chips in all the right spots, but still lost. Any shithead who had ever walked Could take the ship and do a much finer job. This fit like clothes made out of wasps." Isaac concludes by saying "fuck it I guess I lost" accepting this concept he dislikes... The beginning of the next part also starts out the same way and continues to show how life's changes are ever-occuring, but fatalistic, and bad for most, and however hard you try to prevent them, it is futile. "And like we hope, but change will surely come. And be awful for most but really good for some. I took a trip to the exact same spot. We pulled the trigger, but we forgot to cock. And every single shot Aw, fuck it I guess we lost." "Some day you will die and Somehow something’s going to steal your carbon." Again showing the negative effects of the circle of life. Just what the song means to me, it may be way off. |

| I consider very little on the radio to be music. Pretty much the only band I really like that is consistently on the radio is Tool. And yes, this song is a 12 minute orgrasm. Greatest peice of musical (and emotional) bliss I've ever heard. Serotonin overload. :D | |

Holy fucking generalizations batman... First of all... how the FUCK are you going to judge someone's intelligence by how well they spell? Spelling in the English language (which is a mut language of about 7-11 languages) is about memorization. It has nothing to do with intelligence. Second of all it's easy to say someone isn't "gangsta" and basically call these rappers pussies when sitting behind your computer screen. I bet you wouldn't walk up on pac if he were still alive and so any of that shit to his face. People who are sad or live a tough life listen to rock? Are you fucking out of your mind? I bet it is a fact (do the research yourself) that the community below poverty line listen to more rap (real rap, not that MTV produced G-unit bull shit) then anyone else. Not to say wealth is a measure of happiness, but in this case I think it is a fair generalization (unlike the ones tsct posted). As for the rock bands grove listed, Led Zepps biggest hit was a song they wrote while on Marijuana and they admitted THEY don't even know what it means. Metallica is simply over hyped bull shit. Tool is great, but that Maynard quote doesn't apply here, Tupac wasn't a fucking wannabe. And lastly... in response to " "Who's got the heart to stand beside me? I feel my enemies creepin up in silence Dark prayer, scream violence - demons all around me" being blasphemous, this has nothing to do directly with religion, it's metaphoric. You are dumb. |
