Is it just me or when you turn the volume up(and use headphones) you'll hear a word after two after "Space Cadet"? It sounds kinda like "Want some" or "Whats up?".. in the first 20 seconds of the song.. Has anyone tried playing it backwards? |

right now, personally..i think this song is about a parent fighting over their kid. i just found out that my dad's been cheating on my mum. and this song came on my ipod and thats how this song seemed to me.. "Please don't go crazy, if I tell you the truth No you don't know what happened And you never will if You don't listen to me while I talk to the wall This blanket is freezing, it's been out in the hall Where you've had me for hours Till I'm sure what I want But darling I want the same thing that I wanted before So sweetheart tell me what's up I won't stop no way" in this part, the husband's telling the wife that no, he didn't cheat on her. he denies everything. and even blames part of his immorality on the wife, yet still assures the wife he loves her "Please keep your hands down And stop raising your voice It's hardly what I'd be doing if you gave me a choice It's a simple suggestion can you give me sometime So just say yes or no Why can't you shoulder the blame Coz both my shoulders are heavy From the weight of us both You're a big boy now so let's not talk about growth You've not heard a single word I have said... Oh, my God" in this part, the wife is talking to the husband. she's saying that the fight they are having now wouldn't be occurring if he didn't cheat on her and that the husband never listens to the wife when she tries to talk to him. "Please take it easy it can't all be my fault I haven't made half the mistakes That you've listed so far Oh baby let me explain something It's all down to drugs At least I remember taking the and not a lot else It seems I've stepped over lines You've drawn again and again But if the ecstacy's in the wit is definitely out Dr. Jekyll is wrestling Hyde for my pride" ok this part was kind of difficult.. well this part, the child thinks that all of this is his/her fault. but is trying to re-assure him/herself that it isn't. he/she thought it was because of him/her stepping over the "lines you've(the parents) drawn again and again" it caused what his/her father did. and the last sentence "dr jekyll is wrestling hyde for my pride" means that one parent is fighting with the other for his/her pride, trust and love. |

this song is him sort of comparing himself from the past and the present("i used to be such a burning example, i used to be so original, i used to care i was being cared for, and made sure i showed it to those that i love") and how he thinks he messed up and feels bad about it("i used to sleep without a single stir, cause i was about my father's work"). he wants to get out of this mess and fix everything and just make it ok because he doesn't want to be those people who "went down"("take me out tonight, this ship of fools im on will sink") and he would give anything just for things to be how it was before all the things he was facing while writing the record came and caused bad things to happen because its starting to be a burden([thus the title, millstone-a burden] "a milestone around my neck, be my breathe, there's nothing i wouldn't do") again, he's comparing himself from the past and present and how he's changed("i used to pray like god was listening, i used to make my parents proud, i was the glue that kept my friends together, now they don't talk and we don't go out")..now he's losing faith in himself and isn't sure that things will work out the way he wants them to, the way he planned it to([like in the previous song, sowing season] "i used to know the name of every person i kissed, now i've made this bed and i cant fall asleep in it") same as up there ^^^ (the second paragraph) he's now telling himself of the consequences if he fails to make everything better in the metaphor of a car accident("things that were heard at the scene of the accident: 'they never hit their brakes'/'there was no time to see...'") he's also saying that he thinks he's going to make the same mistake like "running out in the street"("he just ran out in the street.. does anyone know his name?.. i think i recognize him") and that if he does there would be a price to pay("he sure as hell paid for that mistake...") |

this song is about changing his life. moving on from past bad experiences(first verse, "i was losing all my friends...").. not like running-away-from-my-problems kind of moving on, but more like facing the problems and solving it(thus the line, "i am on the mend"). he's not sure if things will work out that way but then again, at least he tried("and at least now i can say that i am trying"). he's also asking forgiveness from anyone he has let down and disappointed because he's starting anew("and i hope you will forget.. the things that i still lack"). from this point on, he's sort of "talking to himself", reminding himself to be a man. to suck it up, and face the things he has to because they are going to catch up with him sooner or later("is it in you now, to bear to hear the truth that you have spoken?") and that he should wake up to reality and stop dreaming because they will get to him one day("twisted up by knaves, to make a trap for fools?"). when he screams "yeah", he means he's ready to face the world. he's also trying to tell himself that even though things may be shitty now, it will surely get better, he's trying to stay optimistic("nothing gets so bad, that a whisper from your father couldn't fix it") and that when things are fixed and done, everything will get a whole lot better and many opportunities will rise("he whispers like a bridge, its a river spanned"). and also he's telling himself about his hunger to make things better so he could be happy("take all that you have, and turn it into something you would miss if") even if something goes wrong ("somebody threw that brick, that shattered all your plans") when he screams "yeah", he means, "yeah bring it on, im ready to face anything". in this part of the song, he's telling himself to be patient and that these sort of things take time("no time to get the seeds into the cold groud, it takes some time to grow anything") or it would the destruction of himself("before its all coming to an end"). also he's sorry to everyone he's ever hurt and caused problems for and hopes things could be like the 'olden days when everything else was simple'("do you miss the blend of the color she left in your black and white field?") and that he feels guilty for it("do you feel condemned, just for being there?") the last line concludes everything.. that he's going to do this alone. he's going to take his chances and change things, and make it better but he does not want help from everyone.. thus the line, "i am not your friend, your lover, or your family" well thats my interpretation.. a really long one.. lol |

this song is about how things were going for the band.. "space cadet" is referring to the album artwork for deja entendu. when he says "space cadet, pull out..." he's trying to tell the listeners how they have changed since their last album.. at the beginning, the song is calm signifying how smooth things were going, they've made a huge success with deja entendu, "the quiet things that no one ever knows" was featured on mtv and so on. towards the middle part when things were getting a little rocky was when they were writing TDGRM, it was hard because the demo's were leaked out and jesse lacey was upset about that(i read this somewhere on the net).. when the static guitars come in, im guessing thats when all hell breaks lose, im thinking this is when someone passed away(several people died during the making of this record) and it just keeps going and things were just spiraling downward. im also guessing that the screaming in this song is the way jesse felt, being torn apart and frustrated with everything and how bad things were going with friends dying, the demos being leaked etc.. (NOTE: i interpreted this when i rearranged the songs so that "welcome to bangkok" is the first song and "you won't know" is the last song(someone commented on degausser that if you put the album in that way a story is being told through the songs, and i've interpreted the whole album that way), it makes sense because when the next song comes on(sowing season), the song starts with "losing all my friends, losing them to drinking and driving, losing all my friends, dont want them back". but then again, this is just my interpretation) |
