I definitely think this whole song is an extended metaphor about two people in a relationship that realize their personalities just don't mix well. Although the comparison seems trite, the tone is original. Instead of it being this depressing realization, it seems more like this awesome epiphany. They can finally just accept that they're not meant to be, it's not their fate to be together. By the way, I have a strong feeling that this song was inspired by Brandon's breakup with Carolyn Murphy about a year ago. This album has a different vibe than some of incubus's other stuff off Morning View and Make Yourself. They've really come into their element with this cd, definitely their best yet. |
