i always thought that "top expert" had a kind of sarcastic tone in addressing the said expert, so i don't think she's |

| Cat Power – We All Die Lyrics | 16 years ago |

i actually think it is "try", but it's DEFINITELY not "drive". i also thought it was "HEY, we all die" not "hell"? and "far from MUM?" what the hell!? she's not british! it's obviously "far from HOME" like a few lines before that... but i think it's pretty next to impossible to get these exactly right, since there's no lyric book. as for the meaning, this song is a complete enigma to me. i mean "we all die.... sometimes". haha that sounds kind of silly, but i do reallyyyy like this song because even though i don't know what it means, chan obviously does, and the delivery is very passionate. |

| Goldfrapp – A&E Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| when i first heard this song i was like "oh my gosh, she wrote a jingle for that TV channel!" (A&E or arts & entertainment is an american tv channel, if you didn't know) and i totally thought that was weird, and then i thought it was about like Adam and Eve and it was like a religious song, but now i think it HAS to be Accident & Emergency. it even has those words in the song!!!! | |

| i definitely think floordancer is onto it. i think the title definitely has to do with the club. maybe along with what other people said, it's about being addicted to something, but maybe it's fame and performing. it's definitely about being addicted to something... | |
| Regina Spektor – Laughing With Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| and you can get from this what you will, but in my printed lyric booklet, she word "god" is never capitalized at all, yet "Jiminy Cricket" and "Santa Claus" are, among other things. but never "god". it might not mean anything, but that's how it is. | |

okay no, YOU ARE ALL WRONG. she DEFINITELY says: "Or when the crazies say THEY HATE us and they get so red in the head you'd think they're about to choke." It's THEY. I have the lyrics booklet that came with the album, so I'M RIGHT. :P she's talking about religiously intolerant people, "crazies", that are mean, and that it's funny to watch them get angry and flustered, so much that they're about to choke. an example of why people "laugh with god" |

| The Fiery Furnaces – Police Sweater Blood Vow Lyrics | 16 years ago |

i don't think there's a lot to this song, as far as meanings. vibrate, buzz buzz, ring, and beep. i just want to know, what exactly is a "police sweater blood vow"? usually i can get some sort of understanding of their lyrics/song titles, but i'm totally stumped on this one. great song though. |

well said, whimsicalwish i really don't think this song has ANYTHING to do with "to love and to be loved", anyway. does anyone know if what tru_dat4 said is true? it sounds interesting... for the talking part, the very last part, i believe it's "how they have tried.... to ERASE that" i could be wrong though does anyone know if the woman on the phone is "hassan lemtouni"? if not, does anyone know who she is??? because otherwise she's not in the album credits. and i too, am very very fond of this song. |

i like when he says "We made love on the living room floor With the noise in the background from a televised war" it's a nice contrast in imagery, and conor is criticizing how publicized war is, talking of a "televised" one. i picture this as he's saying it's some kind of reality show. it's dark, depressing, humor. |

| of Montreal – The Past Is a Grotesque Animal Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| ah, man, i did want to note though, that "none of our secrets are physical" probably refers to some kind of sexual, or at least very intimate, experience with someone. because after that intimacy, they have nothing to hide, physically. and then you go back to the line "i've explored you with the detachment of an analyst". and talk about imagery :P and then the 2nd line in the bottom stanza is a metaphor for something, probably. | |

this song lets me know that creativity still exists. this song occupies nearly 12 minutes, and all of it is put to use! it all fits so cohesively too, everything seems like it belongs there. it doesn't even seem that long, probably because it's amazing. i'm not gonna try to dissect this, because it's so voluminous, and there is clearly a LOT of meaning in here. but that "virginia woolf" reference is cool, i never noticed that. |

| The White Stripes – Little Ghost Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I didn't really read all the comments on this post but I skimmed them. Does anyone else think that maybe Jack actually DID see a little ghost? Okay, here is what I perceived. In "White Moon", Jack sings about being in love with a ghost. He also mentions Rita Hayworth. He mentions Rita Hayworth again in "Take, Take, Take". Then there are various other hints (at least for me) in their songs and videos (particularly the "Blue Orchid" Video) and the cover of the album. Notice how they are standing there with their hands behind their backs possibly indicating that something else is there, such as a ghost. And back to Rita Hayworth... Maybe the ghost is Rita Hayworth. This may sound totally crazy but it's just been going through my head and then I found this website. Anyway, this song kind of creeps me out. Especially those random background vocals. SCARY! I usually skip it. |
