i agree with the idea that its about a girl he liked but turned him down because she thought she was too good for him and the "Queen" part is ironic. just listen to the harshness and bitterness in his voice when he sings "Won't you come see me, Queen Jane?" people who say Dylan couldn't sing are WRONG. |

I may be wrong but i see this as a love song. because people who have known him have said that Dylan liked to idolise his women. i think strong women appealed to him and i don't think he minded taking the back seat since he was so much in the spotlight in his working life. also, yes he is ironic in some songs about women, like Queen Jane Approximately which seems quite a nice song on the surface but really isn't but these songs usually seem to be sung and played with more of a bite. She Belongs to Me is quite a soft, sweet tune... as i say i may be wrong - thats just how i see it. |
