its would be so pignantly fitting if it were about johnny marr...i just dont think it is...as someone said earlier it seems to be about morrissey and perhaps a relationship he has forgone in favour of pursuing stardom...its defineatly my favourite on 'strangeways....' and always makes me think of somebody i used to know....a lot of smiths song do that...i cant work out if its the lyrical content or the fact that i have been listening to these songs for so long that revives the memories |

first the ordinary boys are total garbage....now that has been established...i think morrissey genuinely belives these 'ordinary boy' to be lucky....'with there lives laid out before them'.....in direct contrast to the feeling of uncertainity, insecurity morrissey feels i think he is genunily envious of them |

as always morrissey song although superficial dealing with political issues are infact about him....the song is refernce to his trouble with the british music press and accusations of racism ...'to be standing by yhe flag not feeling shamefully' if it is political it is a lament against political correctness....and the fickle nature of the general public |

this song as not meant to be literal i dont think...its one of my favourrites.....i think its a metaphor for his adolscence.......i always thought the bit at the end ' wherever you are i hope your singing now' was a refernce to john marr and his fear of singing |

this is another one of morrissey dont forget me songs.....think of rubber ring.....its about us....the fans.....he is thank us for our devoution.....letting us know that he appreicate...'i thank you...i thankyou with all of my heart.....the song is also a request...like rubber ring...morrissey i think is worried about how history will judge him....think of the race scandal in the mid 90s....he is asking us...as he did in rubber ring.... to think of him kindly...moreover his asking us too' stand up and defend me'......the bit about 'in the future when all's well' is another hint at sucide i think.....'the future is ended by a long sleep'....the songs meaning is this....morrissey is going to die one day...he is looking forward to this....he is scared that he will not get the credit he feels he deserves...he wants us the fans to be his defence...his supporters...that when he is not here he has people to defend him....i think |

more than anything this song is about morrissey than it is about any issue of racism.....as arrogrant as morrissey is he is certainly not a racist.....and the songs lyrics that seem to infere a disregard for racial inclusion are actually more relevant to morrissey own personal struggles...for me anyway |
