| Kate Nash – Foundations Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Yeah pretty self explanatory really. Just to add that I like the dual meaning of "holding onto the cracks in our foundations." It kind of makes me think that she's not letting the cracks close up and go away, because she keeps niggling at things, but also that she's holding onto the cracks as that's all thats left. | |

I love this song, and always thought it was either dancer, dancers or dancing. In contrast to almost everyone else(!)I thought dancer was a positive thing, the idea of dancing as symbolising freedom, art, something above the mundane drugery of life. The idea of cutting the chord and letting go of material/earthly things and searching for something higher, even going so far as to say goodbye to devotion and good, which should "let him go"(very buddhist idea that one) It's not made clear what, which is why he's on his knees looking for the answers. I think it's beautiful anyway, and find it quite uplifting, but maybe that's just me! |

Love that line: "I don't remember losing sight of your needs" Is he rebuffing her accusation? Or is he admitting that it's all his fault? Totally contrasting meanings, the ambiguity is one of the things I really like about it |

| Scouting for Girls – Elvis Ain't Dead Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I quite like the "I'll get by without your smile, I'll get through without you, but I wish it was me you chose" it's not a ridiculous 'I'll never be the same without you my life is over' song it's just how nice it would be if they were together but c'est la vie. That's how I see it anyway... |

| The Kooks – Shine On Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I wondered if "bite the hand that feeds you" was a reference to him, i.e. he tells her she's beautiful but she can't believe him- because of her belief in magazines etc as everyone else said- and has a go at him. "Safety pins holding up the things that make you mine" seems to imply their relationship has an unstable base, her obsession that she's not good enough is damaging it and she should just "shine on" and let it go | |
| The Kooks – See the Sun Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I thought the sun rising and falling was more general than that- they have different attitudes to life and that's why he protests her view that life is essentially worthless- like a plastic cup to be disposed of. I kind of get the feeling from this that she's making what he considers poor choices, maybe going out without with someone who's not been good to her. Just my opinion though... | |

I didn't know it was about Max- I love it even more now! One of the best on the album IMHO. I'm fairly sure the lyrics are "a recluse about your HOUSE, come out. I know you never meant to but you DID" |

| The Verve – Sonnet Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I always thought the sonnet thing was a reference to love not being perfect, the way it seems in poetry. There's love if you want it, but you have to accept its imperfections. Then the last(ish!) line "I think you should know by now" is kind of a reference to that, she should realise she can't have everything she wants. |

| Leonard Cohen – Alexandra Leaving Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
It's interesting to see people's opinions about this: they're so different to mine. I've alway thought it was about the end of a relationship, the moment when you accept it's really over but you have yet to go through the motions (and still feel something for your partner) Particularly As someone long prepared for the occasion; In full command of every plan you wrecked - Do not choose a coward's explanation that hides behind the cause and the effect. i.e. face the fact that you need to end things. I thought Alexandra leaving was metaphorical, your feelings for her are ending. Anyway this is one of my all time favourite songs, absolutely beautiful. |
