The Getaway Plan – Opaque Lyrics 18 years ago
-- I see this song as someone being asked to do something, or change, for another person, and he's sick of it. The person could be whoever you interpret it as: a girl, authority, the world, etc.

When you're asking / Me to walk / In a new direction / I'll be begging / For you to talk / With a true intention

-- So they're asking him to walk in a new direction, with a hidden agenda. He's standing up to them, and wants to know their true intentions.

Falling under / Once again / It's almost time to wake up / And start something

-- He's submitting, even though he doesn't want to. I take the 'almost' as him wanting to stand up to them, but thinking he'll do it later. ((It's like losing weight etc; "I'll exercise tomorrow, I can be lazy today...", but you never do...))

Breath is useless / In this game / This game is damaged / And up in flames

-- And then he says that it's useless to stand up, because the 'game' is corrupted. He could mean life, or just the pressure they're putting on him, etc.

How much longer must we wait? / In this game of patience you can't be late.

-- He's getting fed up with himself. He wants to fight before it's too late.

Bring it outside / For all to see / I'm so hard to tempt
/ Put your mind at ease

-- He wants them to reveal what they're doing to him. He's saying he doesn't succumb as easily as they think, but he's then saying not to worry about it.

I can feel it rising / Here we go again / Deep inside I'm dying / Your first impression has been stained

-- He knows they're coming for him again, and he hates it, cause he knows he never will stand up. His 'first impression' was a good one, but he knows the truth now.

-- Just my thoughts. I love this song. I hope this band will blow up, because they are amazing. Going to see them Friday 13th!
Please feel free to add to this interpretation..

Her smile reminds him of infidelity.. So I take it to have something to do with suicide. Maybe.

Fall Out Boy – This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race Lyrics 19 years ago
To those complaining, they've always been poppy, and it's why most people like them. 'POP-punk/POP-rock', remember? That’s all they’ve ever claimed to be.
Now a couple of lines by Pete that in a way help with the meaning of this song... In a way.

++ besides there is so much other good music coming out right now- go over to absolutepunk.net and see whats coming up... its way more fun then looking for pictures of dudes in bands kissing eachother

++ we worked on a new song today using a couple of strange instruments, who knows if it will end up on the record. i like that we are stretching because it feels so natural. we arent racing, we are trying to craft songs that we will love forever, not just until the next record comes out.

++ i can't sleep ever because i am scared to disappoint you.

The first one: he's saying to look for good music rather than bands kissing. Sounds like just a little stab at people who like the kissing more than the music, no?
The second: 'we are trying to craft songs that we will love forever'. They're trying something new... Crime? Why keep on going with the old, when it's only good. Sure they'll get bad in the mix, but if you don't experiment, is there really much chance you'll find great?

The third is the one that really makes it for me. They are writing the music for the fans.

So finally onto the song meaning, heh... This is just my opinion,...
They're not saying they hate their fans. They're trying to tell them that there’s more, beyond MTV and being scene. They’re saying to like bands because they like the music/lyrics, not because it’s cool, and not to hate them cause they’re on the radio. The ones who like/hate them cause everyone else does should be the ones looking into it… But of course, they won’t.

++ ‘I am an arms dealer fitting you with weapons in the form of words/And (don't really care which side wins)’
__ I see this as a MTV/scene fight (they do say ‘THIS ain’t a scene’, therefore I take it as the pop-punk scene they come from). The scene kids hate the MTV kids. The MTV kids think they’re cooler than the scene kids.

++ ‘As long as the room keeps singing that's just the business I'm in’
__ This is typical of FOB, and the real fun-poking. I take it to be sarcasm. MTV wins, they’ll still be liked because MTV tells people to. Scene kids win, they’ll start liking the band again cause they’re not on MTV anymore. The room keeps singing.

++ ‘This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race’
__ Exactly what it says. Everyone fights everyone else to be coolest

++ ‘Bandwagon's full, please catch another’
__ Too many fans who don’t really like them, but tell everyone they do.

Just my opinion, and I’m never good at expressing it.. Sorry for the long post.. I thought the journals needed to be here.
