My interpretation:
A girl just broke up with her boyfriend and this is in the perspective of the guy she's rebounding with. They're friends, they get drunk, they hook up. While they're still intoxicated, they're happy and dandy. They wake up the next day, naked, realizing what happened, and she feels weird about it. He regrets it because he actually wants to be with her and what happened wasn't significant for her. She's newly single, and is either stuck on her ex or doesn't want to be tied down, and he feels like if they had waited, maybe she would have been with him. Story of my life. |

This is just my interpretation of it. But, to me, it's about being in a stagnant relationship in which the speaker of the song is incredibly unhappy, but they've been staying in it in hopes that things will eventually get better. Finally, he looks his fear in the face and leaves his miserably life of comfort to find happiness again. Finding happiness within yourself before finding it with another person, then being with someone you can actively love. |

Whoever thought that Silly Girl sounded like Jawbreaker has apparently never heard Jawbreaker, and is probably just name dropping the bands listed in the song.
Anyway, I love the Ataris. I love that they, mostly Kris Roe I'm sure, pay homage to bands like Jawbreaker, not only by name dropping, but the lyrics. "I love you more than I've ever loved anyone before" comes from Jinx Removing by Jawbreaker, and "Hey silly girl, I'm begging you" obviously comes from the Descendents' Silly Girl. |

The speaker wants to recognize the emotions and anxiety even though it's painful, while the other wants to put up walls and block it out. They were together for a long time, the quintessential couple, and had all the same friends. They're trying to make it civil and don't want the situation to be awkward for their friends and make them choose between them. I love this song. |
