| I hope I'm wrong about this, but for some reason I get the feeling this song could be about molestation? Her telling him not to open his eyes, saying goodnight. Familiar buzz going away, Holding onto the one with splintered clothes. I'm not sure. Someone please post a in depth explanation to help dispel this theory. I like the song, but right now it has an eerie feeling. | |
| OneRepublic – Mercy Lyrics | 18 years ago |

When I first heard this, I could tell why they put it first on their album. Here is how I see it interpreted... "Angel of Mercy, how did you find me? Where did you read my story? Pulled from the papers, desperate and hurting Seeking a momentary fix" This is the time when he is broken and alone. The "Angel of Mercy" I see as hope when he is alone. She is the "momentary fix." Just the knowing there is hope helps and heals, but he doesn't know how there is still hope with him. "All I wanted to say, all I wanted to do Is fall apart now All I wanted feel, I wanted love It's all my fault now A tragedy I fear" Everything he was going to do and all of the love for that special someone is gone. It's broken, and he is mourning and hoping their relationship isn't a "tragedy" and there is still a chance for happy ending for them. Chorus: "Angel of Mercy, how did you find me? How did you pick me up again? Angel of Mercy, how did you move me? Why am I on my feet again?" The Chorus is him pleading with hope asking why it is still there, when to him it might be hopeless. He is wondering how there can be hope in so much despair. "I see you Whoa, whoa, whoa I feel you Whoa, whoa, whoa" He knows and can feel hope is still there in his life. "Before just the daylight Came and I stand by Waiting to catch the quickest plane To fly me to nowhere It's better than somewhere That's where I've been and nothings changed" He wants hope to take him from despair. If it takes him anywhere else, even to her he knows that nothing would have changed between them. It would just hurt going back. "All I wanted to say, all I wanted to do Is fall apart now All I wanted to feel, I wanted to love It's all my fault now A tragedy I chose" Same as last time except for the last line. He is saying he chose a "tragedy" and that is how it is. It was inevitable what happened between them, and now he has to accept it. "I'm so lost in you A tragedy, it seemed to be over now A tragedy, it seemed to be over now" He has come to accept that their relationship is over. There will be no happy ending for both of them. He's moved on, and hope is there to help him. |

Great song. Here is my break down. I also believe it is about a relationship between two people. Verse 1: And you think you're alone as if I wasn't there You’re losing your faith in me It’s a car, it's a crash, it's a death, and you're scared You just can't escape the scene He can tell that she is feeling distant, and she thinks he isn't there for her anymore. This is horrible to him, it's a crash, a death. She's scared on how she feels, but she can't get out of the mind set. Bridge: Hush now you're insane Touch my skin, come back again The sky is falling He is telling her to hush her fears. It is insane to believe it. Touch him again, and she'll see he is there for her. The sky is falling because because to him it is like the world is ending. Chorus: It’s something you cannot fake This something you will not shake Just walk away before I look at you It’s something only you can take "It" to me is the feeling they both have. The feeling of love or some other unexplainable emotion. The feeling you can't get rid of, and whenever she is near him all the feelings come back. That is why he wants her to look away, so it is easier if they part ways. The feeling is only something she can bring and take away. Verse 2: All your words, it's a lie to yourself, it's a home There’s so much that you can't see It’s a bomb that can kill everyone, and it blows You can't even hear me scream All the things she is saying to herself isn't true. She is lying to herself, but she's been thinking of it so long that it feels like home. All of the lies she is blinded by, she can't see the truth. Her blindness to the real feelings is something that can end the relationship. She won't even be able to hear his side or scream. Verse 3: This is only feeling with no thought Is this love? What happened to the promises I bought? Is this love? This is the culmination of his feelings. He is only thinking of what he feels without analyzing it. He questions if the feeling is love. The "promises" aren't bought with money. It is bought with the time and emotion he invested in the relationship. This is how I see the song. Comments? |

Beautiful song. Heard it on Grey's Anatomy. I'll post what I think when I listen to it more, and break it down. |

Thanks wolf cub. You bring up a good point. I went through the verses and put what I have down now. Verse 1 "I'm going to see some friends from out of state. The very trip that you were suppose to take a while ago, but it fell through. Like all of you, like all of you." She was going to see friends, but somehow didn't get to see them. Now he must see them to tell them of her passing. Verse 2 "Thought I'd make the drive, but a free plane ride is in the air and just like that my fear of it disappeared. Like all of you, like all of you." A plane ride is discounted or free in cases of bereavement. His fear of flying disappears like how she disappears from his life. Chorus "And I look high and low for yesterday. High and low for you and I high and low." He is remembering the memories and old times he had with her. Verse 4 "Once I can see straight I might move somewhere cold. Seattle or the Bay area to see your ghost. What's left of you. What's left of you." He can't see straight because tears blur the vision. What's left of her is in him, and he is moving somewhere cold so he can see his breath in the air. Breathing is needed for life, and she is his breath. So being able to see the condensing of his breath, is in someway seeing her. This might seem a little far fetched, but I think it fits well. Verse 5 "Found a letter from a man I might have met addressed to you, and I'll steal the words he ended with, 'I miss you, and I do. I miss you, and I do.'" When he is going through her belongings, he finds a letter she kept that he wrote for her. It was a love letter talking about how he wants to be with her, but now the letter to him means he misses her and needs her more than before. He "might have met" because he is in a different state in his life than he was when he originally wrote the letter. Some parts of this might seem a bit reaching, but with this the song seems to be more meaningful to me. It's a great song. |

Nice song, very relaxing. To me this song is talking about someone who wants the past he had with someone else. Whether it be because she passed away or they broke up. Also, I think the man who wrote the letter is actually him. |

| Vega4 – Tearing Me Apart Lyrics | 19 years ago |

At first this song didn't stick out to me because I didn't know the lyrics. One day I decided to listen, and I actually was able to get the lyrics down. After knowing the lyrics, I easily loved the song. The song to me is about a guy (or girl) who has found someone special. "Fingers tracing tracks on my face. Uncover the cracks in me." The other person is bringing things out of him that he didn't think was there. "You're tearing me apart. it's beautiful, it's beautiful. Beautiful at the start." The Chorus means that she is tearing him down. Getting through the layers, and he loves it. "Who would have known my heart is beating?" The next lines after the chorus, he is talking about how he didn't know he had all of this things inside of him. He didn't know until she started to tear him apart. "I was dreaming we were older. You were laughing and I woke up. Covered in one sleeping breath, the night before I left New York. I have to catch a plane to Jacknife, but I'll be back soon." The next verse is how she is always on his mind. He dreams about her and doesn't want to leave her presence even for a little while. |

| Vertical Horizon – Miracle Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I think this song is about someone in a relationship who doesn't think the other person is the right person. "Its taken so long to get it right. Would it be so wrong to maybe find someone, a miracle?" Its taken so long for the relationship to work, and he is asking if it would be wrong to look for another person. Another person with that "thing" or "miracle." "And all you really need is everything you could never be. And so you'd give it all up for a miracle." He is saying that everything you want to be, you can't be because you are in a relationship. He would give the relationship up though if he found a girl with a miracle. "Is there a trace inside her face of a lonely miracle? And so you wait and lie awake for a lonely miracle." He is wondering if there is the miracle in his current girlfriend, but he knows there isn't. So during those sleepless nights, he wonders about and waits for the girl with a miracle. "But what you miss is love and everything below and up above. And could she bring it all? A miracle?" He probably doesn't feel the love in the relationship anymore, and is wondering if his girlfriend has the miracle or if there is someone else out there who can. "All you wanted was a...All you needed was a miracle. A miracle. All you wanted was a...All you needed was a miracle. A miracle." All he wants is that thing in a girl. He needs it, he yearns for it. He doesn't think his current girlfriend is fulfilling the yearning. That is mostly the whole song. Beautiful song, with strong lyrics. |

I didn't know what "Don't give the ghost up" part either, until one day I heard it and now it sounds like "Don't give the go, stop! Just clench your fist." Anyone agree/disagree? |

OH! And I'm pretty sure it is "We need to feel breathless with love and not collapsed under its weight" and not "We need to feel breathless with love and not collapse under its weight" Reason? Because it is saying you want to feel breathless and not feel collapsed under love's weight. You can't feel collapse. I hope that helps. =) |

I love the ending of this song also. Especially when it gets to "It's so thrilling but also wrong" (Which also sounds to me "It's so thrilling but oh so wrong") with the guitar (?) in the background coming in. The ending is absolutely beautiful. |
