of Montreal – Famine Affair Lyrics 15 years ago
Though I'm still unsure as to it's meaning, but I interpret the lyrics as Barnes talking to his mind, or his analytical and controlling self.

Menomena – Evil Bee Lyrics 17 years ago
I think the song is jabbing at capitalist society; Like Sky1 said, we demand a purpose in our lives and we use a scale of societal status via how much gold we have.

"I took a walk with an invisible friend
And on that walk, I gave my hand"

Some may think that I take this too literally, but I think this line is making a reference to the invisible hand in free market economics.

Beach House – Gila Lyrics 18 years ago
Since I think it will be really difficult to come to a conclusion on the meaning, I'm just going to give the concept I gained from it.

I take the song to be much more specific, rather than abstract or general.

"Man, you got a lot of jokes to tell /
So you throw your baby’s banners down the well"

In context with the other lines made me imagine a previous, yesteryear lover toying with the affection of the author while this lover is already taken from her physically or emotionally by others.

"Sure, you’ve got a handle on the past /
It’s why you keep your little lovers in your lap"
Support for the idea that it refers to a long time lover with his handle on the past, and that he has multiple lovers like him he plays with.

"Hoping for the last ship to arrive
I’ve been blessed with a kingdom, half-mine"
I took the kingdom to see his, or perhaps his emotions, half to her and half to someone else. The ship being her being the last "ship" to land in his kingdom.

Just a shot at it.

Modest Mouse – She Ionizes and Atomizes Lyrics 18 years ago
The significance I gather from the song is that it is a love song, but in a more general nature.

She, or her love, is the sunlight, and all the other pleasures are the florescent light bulbs. Knowing Issac's past, I can see what his florescent light bulbs may have been, but I think the idea is that only love, or maybe even "her" love, can fill you with that feeling of fullness.

General or specific, I think it's fair enough to say the song is about love.

LCD Soundsystem – Give It Up Lyrics 18 years ago
As with most LCD Soundsystem pieces, it's hard to decipher whether Murphy, in the end of it all, supports enjoying life to the fullest with money or if he really is trying to say that there are other options to try.

The two views are juxtaposed together and it's starting to seem that this one is just a dance song and shouldn't be looked into that hard. Hm.

LCD Soundsystem – All My Friends Lyrics 18 years ago
In response to the Franz Ferdiand cover: It's nice, but it doesn't contain the same feelings. In LCD, it sounds like Murphy means his lyrics and the lyrics are the centerpiece because of the underlying monotony. (Which further gives you more to symbolize that monotony)

In Franz Ferdiand's piece, it seems the the authors and director understood the meaning of the song, but failed to show it through their work. Lost in translation.

Daft Punk – Technologic Lyrics 19 years ago
Daft Punk is pumping out singles that they use music videos to attach very social and psychological issues they have. "Prime of your Life" and "Technologic" are the most influenced by this concept.

My take on the significance and meaning of the song is that technology is dictating all that we should do in this seemingly fast-paced world. With the new breed of technology comes an evolved sense of working harder and at higher capacity than before. As such, humans are becoming equated to the slaves of computers because of their superiority in logistical problem-solving and we simply follow their commands.

That is why I believe the doll [That happens to be Chucky's old shell...] is used to dictate commands through the television. The doll being Chucky most likely only comes as A.) A doll that can move itself, and B.) A representation of our older technology.

Technology has become a superpower compared to our computation skills, and are now leading every piece of our life -- and at the speed to which these computers create such ideas, simply speeding up the intensity and fury of our own lives.

My Morning Jacket – Wordless Chorus Lyrics 19 years ago
Perhaps it is pretentious to suggest that the significance of the song to me is the same as the meaning, but it's just screaming about to me. Also, these lyrics are so Radiohead-OK Computer influenced its unbearable to atleast credit them as an influence.

The significance is that we are living life just as millions before us have -- how can we define our lives when so many people have done what we have done.

Secondly, the theme behind this is that the pleasures of life as fleeting from the majority of societies' view due to the rigors expected from us in our daily jobs. There isn't time to feel or strive towards things not already prepared -- it is unproductive and that goes against what we are taught.

After that, it ends on a lighter note reminding us of that promise me made as a kid to achieve some amazing goal that now seems unfeasible because life keeps telling us to follow the straight, clean path. Also, the song mentions that "We are the innovators, they are the imitators" to show that we have the ability to escape the sociological concepts instilled -- we have the ability to still create, influence, and innovate.
