Childhood's what makes ya til they treat you like tundra. I think that is saying how adults like to decide that a kid has no future . I wish I could explain in better than that. If you think about it tundras are places where no one wants to live, there is no use of them at all, essentially they are ignored. Just like the kid being told written off and ignored because he doesnt fit someones definition of useful. Yeah this is the best song..... ever and I will write a bunch on it once I learn how to write a bunch well. |

^I agree. The end of this song makes me think of Nazi soldiers marching. |

Everyone missed my favorite part of the song where he sings 'How have you been" so hopelessly. Isaac sings it sounding hopeless and uninterested. It is sung repetively and the same way each time, empasizing the repetitive theme of the song. I think of him saying this to someone he has seen along his road of life and then come across again. All he can mutter is a pitiful question that he doesnt even care about an answer for. He has nothing to say about how he has been because his life has just been one constant never changing grind. It is an uninteresting line that is used to ask about how unintersting ones life is. It is sweet at the end where the music picks up and the drums and guitar answer each other. |

| Modest Mouse – Exit Does Not Exist Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| It's interesting how the song is called "exit does not exist" and he sings the line in the song "does not exist". He is singing it where the exit does not exist in the line. Also if you listen there is a pause where the exit could be before "does not exist". If that makes any sense. | |

What bugs me most about this song, besides the ska-ish sounding horns, the beat, and the syths, is how un-musical it is. When listening to it, music takes you to a certain place. This song starts in one place and never goes anywhere at all for 4 and a half minutes. I cannot think of one other Modest Mouse song, more than 30 seconds long, that does this. All the rest of their music builds and falls throughout. Music is about life and life is never one place, it hasa change. Parts are exciting, other parts are boring, some parts are calm while others are frantic. This song is one phrase over and over again. Although I still like the words. They arn't as clever and are kind of happy for them but still the best lyrics out there. As for my favorite album... I'd have to say Building Nothing Out of Something, that one hasn't been mentioned that much but I really like it. Medication, Positive/Negative, Life of Artic Sounds, Interstate 8, hard to beat those songs. All of their old albums amazing though. And my favorite song as of right now has to be Tundra/Desert. |

| Modest Mouse – Whenever I Breathe Out, You Breathe In (Positive/Negative) Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Yeah, absolutely no site has the lyrics in the middle when he sings positive negative. I'm not sure he is saying "your breathing is positive negative" doesn't exactly sound like that but whatever its the best guess I have. This song is neat. It fits with the overall theme of the album well of feeling isolated and distant from those that used to be extremely close. When he sings the beginning part of the song "hey, haven't seen you around in a while" it reminds me of other parts of the album like interstate 8 when he sings "how have you been" so sadly. Also baby blue sedan in the part that goes "i feel lonesome when you're around". All of these lines talk about a relationship that has crumbled from what it used to be and can't ever be the same way. Right now I am kinda going through the same thing as you, mouser. It is incredible on how fast things can change between two people. It feels like shit because you don't know what you could've done. |

| Modest Mouse – Every Penny Fed Car Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| No real meaning? I don't think MM is capable of writing a song with no real meaning. This car is an obvious metaphor for the things in life that you toil day in and out for because of a promising reward but that reward never comes. I like to think of this like a relationship that starts out all fast and exciting at the beginning but then turns into a grind that brings more pain than happiness. You spend every bit of energy to make it work but in the end the relationship is not worth all the time spent and it takes you no where. Truly a good MM song with lots of meaning. | |
