| The Avett Brothers – Please Pardon Yourself Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Pretty sure it's: "As I turn my head to your side of the bed Why are you awake? What's on your mind?" |

| Conor Oberst – Cape Canaveral Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Alright... One line that's definitely wrong in the lyrics above is: "In the comatose joy that we're on TV" The correct lyric is: "Give me comatose joy like rerun TV" That makes much, much more sense... Like, there's no need to pay attention 'cause you've seen it all before... And you take comfort in that. Also, it's "1980's greed" and "while the universe was drawing perfect circles for infinity." Dig it. |

| Joni Mitchell – Refuge Of The Roads Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Yup... Hejira is definitely all about a road trip. The word "Hejira" essentially means "road trip." But, technically, it means a journey, specifically as a transliteration of the Arabic word hijra. | |
| Joni Mitchell – Harry's House/Centerpiece Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Quite possibly the most effective song about marital doldrums ever written. | |
| Joni Mitchell – The Circle Game Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This song was written in response to Niel Young's "Sugar Mountain." The last verse is a little jacked though... Here's the way it is supposed to be: "So the years spin by and now the boy is twenty Though his dreams have lost some grandeur Coming true There'll be new dreams, maybe better dreams and plenty Before the last revolving year is through" |

| Joni Mitchell – Cherokee Louise Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I've gotta correct myself on this puppy... In the second to last verse, I stated that "Archie and Silver Screen" were substituted in later versions. Nix that. I was confused... "Comics and magazines" was actually used in later versions and "Archie and Silver Screen" are the original lyrics. | |
| Bright Eyes – It's Cool, We Can Still Be Friends Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The emotion involved in the last verse... The "whiskey" verse... Is heart wrenching. | |
| Bright Eyes – Waste of Paint Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This is the first song I ever heard by Bright Eyes. I was at a party watching Austin City Limits (Pretty crazy party, eh?) mainly for Wilco, but I stuck around to see Bright Eyes because all of my friends that were there kept going on and on about how wonderful they were. They opened with Waste of Paint and I was floored. The lyrics are beautifully uncomfortable and poetic. The comparison between love and a lottery is priceless. I always seem to get "just one cherry too." |

| Joni Mitchell – For The Roses Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This song is killer... So sad, so thought provoking... As many of Joni's songs are. This is one of the first songs to demonstrate Joni's growing distaste for the music business. And though it's a topic that has been endlessly written about, Joni has the rare ability to make it new: "They toss around your latest golden egg Speculation - Well, who's to know If the next one in the nest will glitter for them so" And "I guess I seem ungrateful With my teeth sunk in the hand That brings me things I really can't give up just yet" Seriously priceless. |

| Joni Mitchell – Urge For Going Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Joni has stated that this is the only protest song she's ever written... A protest against winter. | |
| Joni Mitchell – Electricity Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Priceless symbolism here... PRICELESS. |

| Joni Mitchell – Chelsea Morning Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Hmmm... I don't really understand why a lot of people feel the need to find drama and sadness in every song. See IckleRu's comment. No offense or anything, of course. This is a very simple song about Joni being newly in love both with a man and a new location... The Chelsea District of New York City. Everything is fresh for her... Her love, her day. And of course, the world is hers and anything is possible. |

| Joni Mitchell – Blonde In The Bleachers Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This song is pretty easy to catch the jist of... Unlike many of Joni's songs (especially her work in the late 70's - The Hissing of Summer Lawns and Don Juan's Reckless Daughter). But I really, really dig the line: "She tapes her regrets to the microphone stand" What a clever way to refer to her own work as a musician. |

| Joni Mitchell – Cold Blue Steel And Sweet Fire Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Yeah, this song is DEFINITELY about heroin addiction. Cold blue steel (the needles) and Sweet Fire (the please that you get from it). A gun and suicide??? Really? That was the furthest thing from my mind. Though herion addiction is not a typical Joni Mitchell subject, suicide is even less typical. |

| Joni Mitchell – Amelia Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
While in some ways yes, this IS an ode to Amelia Earhart... It is more of a comparison between Joni and Amelia. "Like me, she had a dream to fly." I think what Joni is trying to portray in this song is the common sense of needing to escape... To remove yourself from your own existense in order to find yourself. Amelia never returned from this journey. And Joni, apparently did. "It was just a false alarm." |
