| Queen – Killer Queen Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| The whole Kennedy thing may be a reference to Marilyn Monroe. That kinda girl. | |
| Muse – Citizen Erased Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It's about loss of innocence, that awkward period in your formative years when you're slowly being exposed to the real world full of liars, cheats and backstabbers - and learning things the hard way. It's told through the perspective of someone who's a bit, well...eccentric. :) | |
| John Mayer – Gravity Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This is why John "dreams of ways to throw it all away". Just to keep all these people off his back and leave him alone. Having twice as much as others really ain't twice as good, in the long run. And wanting more really is gonna hurt you in the end. |

| John Mayer – Gravity Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think it's about being in love or having things other people know they can't have as good as you. So they try to find ways to bring you down to their level to sort of even things out, or even try to take it away from you. It's as if others can't stand the idea of you being happy. | |
| Eric Clapton – My Father's Eyes Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Correct. Clapton is trying to say that because he never knew his own father, he does not have the experience of having a father-son relationship. As a result, he cannot have this sort of bond with his own son because he doesn't know how to do it. "How do I teach him? What do we play?" Bit by bit, he realizes the importance of having such a relationship with his own father when his son comes into this world. But the realization comes pretty much too late. The realization comes when hard times come for him and his son ("the jagged edge appears through a distant cloud of tears"). |

| Gnarls Barkley – Crazy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I think it's about manic depression. How you have to be slightly mad in order to be creative and artistic. When you're experiencing mania, you're having fun by experiencing various thoughts and emotions but you can be a little out of control sometimes. So be careful. His heroes are the artists from the past who have inspired him. |

| Josh Groban – Remember Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Easily one of the most powerful and moving songs I've ever heard, for the melody alone. | |
| Muse – Sunburn Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The song is about how manipulative women are - they drop hints, making you think they're interested in you but they end up making a fool out of you when you start to make a move on them and pretend they were never interested to begin with. These type of girls just enjoy getting the attention. | |
| Muse – Stockholm Syndrome Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I think in this song Matt fantasises about kidnapping a certain girl and holding her hostage so that Stockholm Syndrome would occur and she'd fall in love with him. | |
| Muse – Citizen Erased Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
It's basically about being restrained by others and not being allowed to express yourself and be yourself because other people tend to criticize you for wanting to be an individual. Hence the title. Matt would have no identity as an artist if he was constantly restricted by the norms of society. As Matt faces the real world in his formative years, he learns how screwed up people can be in life. ("Break me in, teach us to cheat. And to lie, cover up, what shouldn't be shared?") These may have been trying tiems for him as he grew up and he ended up learning life's lessons the hard way ("the truth's unwinding, scraping away at my mind"). "Please stop asking me to describe" = These experiences were perhaps somewhat depressing for him and he's asking people whom he meets in the future to stop criticizing him for being the way he is today as a result. Please stop asking him to justify the way he's turned out. The chorus = please be a little bit open-minded and quit judging me too harshly. The way his personality is today is his form of artistic inspiration. In the second verse, he expresses how he just wants to be accepted for who he is. He wants people to understand him but it just doesn't happen ("self-expressed, exhausting for all"). But at the end of the day, he just wants to fit in ("to see and to be what you want and what you need"). In the last verse, Matt's saying screw it, let's forget about the past and just move on. I like how the dynamics of the song seem to reflect the various moods associated with manic depression. Angsty riffs, quiet introspective breakdown, emotional chorus/guitar solo and a sad piano ending. Very beautifully written song. |

| Muse – Cave Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I always thought this song was about manic depression. Perhaps Matt was going through a rough phase in his life and felt he didn't need to be bothered by idiots who'll just piss him off even more. The lines "please close your ears and try to look away" and "there's nothing you can do" perhaps suggest that the only way to deal with his anger is to let it all out verbally and perhaps physically too. Anyone who tries to 'come in his cave' (ie not mind their own business) will be on the receiving end of his nasty side ("I'll burn your heart away"). "Arrest me for my mistakes" = Sue me for being a little bit messed up. ;) |

| Muse – Showbiz Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
You're all wrong, except summerlr. Matt said in an interview that it's about "hiding behind personalities that we create for other people", hence the title. It's about acting (ie "showbiz") and pretending to be a certain way just to fit in. We all wear a social mask in order to fit in with others and sometimes it tends to get the better of us. Some of us constantly feel compelled to be a certain way in order to feel like we belong ("trying to please you for too long"). We repress our true feelings in order to fit in ("controlling my feelings for too long"). Also, Matt's trying to say that people like to take advantage of you if you're too submissive ("visions of greed you wallow/they make me dream your dreams/they make me scream your screams"). The world's a stage and very few of us are well-rehearsed for it. ;) |
