| AFI – This Celluloid Dream Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This is just a beautiful love song. The person he is talking about makes the boy 'melt' inside because she is so beautiful - she 'lands as lightly as the new snow'. Think about snow falling when no one has walked on it yet; how beautiful that is. 'Bathed in your radiance I melt' speaks for itself really - the person he is talking about radiates beauty, and it makes him melt more. 'All the colours upon leaving turn to grey' - when the girl leaves, everything is dull and boring. The radiance is gone; therefore, the colour is drained and everything looks ugly. |

| AFI – Love Like Winter Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I think this song is about arranged marriage. "I met my love before I was born" and "It's in the blood". These arranged marriages are often arranged by parents before their children are born or when they are very little. And quite often people of rich families will pair their children up with other children from rich families, so as not to spoil the rich blood line. Makes sense to me... |

Fight Club THE BOOK probably had an influence on this song. The bruises and contusions will remind you what you did when you wake You've earned a place atop the ICU's hall of fame ^^ the fact that he has a multiple personality diesorder - when he thinks he sleeps he actaully 'wakes' as another person, which is where he gets the bruises from. at the end of the book he is in an ICU (or a mental hospital, some think), and all the followers of project mayhem are oh so proud of him and say that they will get him out. and also It's not so pleasant And it's not so conventional It sure as hell ain't normal ^^psychological disorders (ie. DID) makes people psychologically abnormal. |

Bananaburst's theory sounds the most plausible. I forgot to mention, when I first heard the song, I thought it said 'Short people wear short clothes" lol. |

| I Am Ghost – Dark Carnival of the Immaculate Lyrics | 19 years ago |

i like this song. it has a typical carnival/circus feel to it. maybe the meaning it is portraying is unity. 'we won't turn to dust'. as one in the 'carnival' a certain group of people is strong. hmm, may have to expand deeper into that one... |

| also 'shark people wear shark clothes' really reminds me of the buffy episode 'tabula rasa', where there is a loan shark (who has a shark's head). but, again, no idea what this has to do with the rest of it. | |
| Garbage – Bleed Like Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| to cheesypot - 'painted like a brand new christmas toy' is a reference to the fact that this boy obviously is wearing very bright make up (much like that of a 'brand new christmas toy', which is usually bright) because he is confused about his sexuality. | |
| I Am Ghost – We Are Always Searching Lyrics | 19 years ago |

definitely a brilliant song. it got me into them. but the 'new' version certainly lacks the depth that the original portrayed so well. it's a tad over-produced. and i dislike the way they've insisted on extending all the last lines of the verses and choruses. just sounds odd to me. great song though... |

| I Am Ghost – Our Friend Lazarus Sleeps Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Regarding the title, it is a biblical reference to the 11th chapter of the Gospel according to John. A man named Lazarus was ill, Mary and Martha (his sisters) let Jesus know of this, as they think he is going to die. Jesus however says he won't, and so does not go to help him. After Jesus makes plans to go to Judea, he says "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I will go and wake him up". Everyone takes this to mean literally falling asleep, but Jesus actually means Lazarus has died, and this he then explains. Martha and Mary were angry at Jesus when he finally went to see Lazarus, and told him that this wouldn't have happened if he had come sooner. To which Jesus replies "Your brother will come to life". Mary and Martha take this to be what will happen to very follower on Judgement Day. However, Jesus then goes to the tomb of Lazarus (where he has been buried for four days) and tells him to come forth. Lazarus rises from the dead and emerges out of his tomb still in his 'grave clothes'. This then causes an outrage amongst the local priests, who plot against Jesus and also Lazarus. What this has to do with the lyrics, I have no idea. But I hope this ives some insight into what the title means.... |

i can't believe no one has pointed out the line 'to become what i became', which is an actual quote of the film of Interview With The Vampire. furthermore, in the book, the tortured soul, louis, describes his condition as 'a curse', which hint that the whole cd is based upon these novels. if not that, then the blatent cover of the lady vampire makes it remarkably obvious. so to me at least, this song is about vampires, in particular louis, the tortured soul who is sickened by the things he is forced to do as a vampire ("will you.still hold me when you see what i have done?"). i could also be interpreted as growing up or whatever, and it could well be if the band said it was about that, but i don't personally see it that way. other than that i'd just like to make a general comment on this site which is that i think people focus too much on the 'actual' meaning of the songs (ie. what the artist says they are about), rather than stating what it means to YOU, which at the end of the day is what listening to music is all about. |

| Nine Inch Nails – Right Where It Belongs Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
to me, this song is a reflection of plato's 'allegory of the cave'. it questions what it real in this world, and if it is worth living for all these material things, when they might not even be real. i can't say all of it now because that would take ages, but i can definitely see the references throughout the song. See the animal in his cage that you built, Are you sure what side you're on? Better not look him too closely in the eye, Are you sure what side of the glass you are on? ^^ basically, you're seeing things, and you believe them to be real. but you need to question the reality of things: are you sure that you are real? and you sure that you are not trapped in the 'cave' or in this case, a cage. plato believed that the human body and physical world entraps the soul, and this is a good representation of this. See the safety of the life you have built Everything where it belongs Feel the hollowness inside of your heart And it's all, right where it belongs ^^ everything is where it belongs: you take things to be real, and they therefore belong in this world, when really you shouldn't be paying attention to the material objects that appeal to sense experience, which inevitably make your heart 'hollow'. What if everything around you, Isn't quite as it seems? What if all the world you think you know, Is an elaborate dream? ^^ these are all the questions you are supposed to be asking yourself in order to live a decent life. you shouldn't take the things you perceive through your senses for real, because it's not. And if you look at your reflection, Is that all you want to be? What if you could look right through the cracks, Would you find yourself, find yourself afraid to see? ^^ in the 'allegory of the cave' the prisoner who is freed from the cave (ie. the limitations of the physical world, his body) sees the ultimate truth. but when trying to tell the other prisoners about it, they refuse to belive him, because it is a frightening experience, because they are quite comfortable believeing in what they see. thus, they are 'afraid to see'. imagine if someone came up to you and told you the world wasn't real...you would not belive them, as a) it would sound completely farfetched, and b) it will mean you have to change all your beliefs about the world, and this is a quite scary experience. What if all the worlds inside of your head, Just creations of your own? Your devils and your Gods, all the living and the dead And you really are alone? ^^ again, just elaborating on the idea that the world is not real, this is just a reflection of what is actaully real outside of the physical world. You could live in this illusion You can choose to beleive You keep looking but you can't find the words Now you're hiding in the trees ^^ now you know that the world isn't real, you can choose to keep believing in the lie, or you can go ahead and live a good life as a philosopher. basically, that's just a very small fragment of the various references to plato's analogy, and i guess to understand it fully you need to look into the actual piece of writing. i suggest going to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allegory_of_the_cave and it will give you a better picture of it. |

| AFI – Girl's Not Grey Lyrics | 19 years ago |

to me this song is possibly about suicide. 'i'll lay me down tonight' - lay down and die 'watch stars go out' - recurring theme of stars going out as seen in death of seasons, stars eventually burn out and thus 'die' 'what follows' - what follows my death 'has led me to this place where i belong with all erased' - obvious really, you think you belong dead. all erased = all people who have died (this could be in heaven, or whatever). as for the 'all insects sing tonight', when you are buried under the ground, there will be insects surrounding you, maybe? |

| Garbage – Bleed Like Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| one of then most important aspects of this song is the 'try to comprehend that which you cannot comprehend'. however hard you try, or even if you have experienced some of the issues that others experience, you will NEVER be able to understand exactly how they feel. you just cannot. however, that does not mean that you shouldn't try. this song is just trying to make clear that it is impossible to feel exactly how another person does when he/she feels pain. | |
| Garbage – Silence Is Golden Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
to me this song is like two songs in one. the first half is completey detached from the first. to me, the first half (up to after the second chorus) is about someone who is always seen as The Quiet One. i often have the trouble that whenever i say something, no one hears it, even if i raise my voice. this then leads to an anxiety that no one will ever hear you or care about what you have to say, and so you will never say anything anymore, and eventually you will just dissolve. "If I am silent then I am not real, But if I speak up then no one will hear" makes my point clear. if people like me are quite and just listen intently to what everyone else is saying, people ignore them; if they say something, people still ignore them. so basically when you're quiet, you know you won't get hurt if people ignore you. i hope that's understandable in the way i've put it, i'm not very good at explaining things. the second half, is, however like everyone else said about sex, or even rape. now after "I have been broken", "nobody gets in", ie. they're scared it's going to happen again and live in fear that it will. |
