the breakdown 'if there's blood on the roots then there is blood on the branches' I dunno I always assumed it was talking about like the fruits of the spirit, and how if you are not anchored in christ (blood on the roots) then the fruits of your life will be hollow and not of God (blood on the branches) i always took this lyric as sort of a warning on being grounded in the bible and in god. |

This song so reminds me of black and white hard boiled detective movies from the 1920's y'know its the whole clich'e smokey cafe with someone on stage playing the piano and singing while the protagonist is drinking away his sorrows. Real film noir.

well, 777theformaldan no offense but I disagree, I think Satan is a more likely candidate for the term 'the great manipulator.' God doesn't manipulate people, and the term 'Great manipulator' seems to have a negative connontation in this song.
I think it means that we live in the enemys territory, and we are giving in almost- letting the worship of god become 'empty and automatic' when we should sit down and realise that we are in a war and its time to 'break out the shotguns' and start fighting |

I thought that this song was about the way the church and god as an idea has become today among the youth. 'they stick tacky ornaments on it and they sell it to the kids' this line i believe is talking about christianity and how you can be 'christian' today and still do everything b4 u gave ur life to christ. It is about liberal, loose christians and how josh would like to say that he has stayed true to what he believes in his heart is right, but has mucked up a few times. Although he has screwed up he stil tries to live for god and be as uncompromising as he can be in the world we now live in. |
