I hate it when everybody assumes that every song that Jim ever wrote is about drugs. If you knew anything at all about him, you'd know that he didn't believe in taking drugs in excess in the first place. He was an alcoholic, not a heroin junky. He frowned upon Pamela's habit of overusing the drug. Anyway, I see this song as another poem backed by music. Of course, everyone should interpret the poems as the see it. Like he said, real poetry has no meaning. |

Alicia, I think that your interpretation of "trade in your hours for a hand full of dimes" is what is wrong with most people that try to converse intelligently about Jim. Not everything was sex, drugs, and alcohol. To clear any confusion up, nobody actually knows what the ratio Five to One actually means, not even the rest of the original Doors. Jim took that to the grave with him. |
