Laura Marling – Ghosts Lyrics 17 years ago
I've become completely obsessed with this song ever since I heard it on Pandora, and it perfectly defines the first few months of my girlfriend and I's relationship.

I believe it's about a nice man who means well who's trying to find another person, but he's clearly still not over the girl he had before who tore his heart out. The woman singing is interested in this man as much as he is into her, but she takes caution to be with him since he's still "mourning". She provides a shoulder to cry on while still giving the cold truth that what's done is done and love can eventually die, but somehow it makes you feel safer when you hear it. It's like, it's just what you needed to hear.

God, I love my girlfriend, and I feel that songs like this -- as to the point they may be -- still force a lot of emotion out of you through both lyrics and music, and that, to me defines a good song.

Casiotone for the Painfully Alone – We Have Mice Lyrics 18 years ago
I agree with AmINotYours? on both accounts :-P.

This is a song about turning lemons into lemonade, metaphorically speaking. The narrator persistently waits for this person of importance to call him, so he waits up for them. While in the act, he actually grows a close relationship with these vermin in his apartment, almost hinting that the person who never calls is lesser for neglecting him. Very clever, very deep, and an overall great song.

Casiotone for the Painfully Alone – Toby Take a Bow Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is for days you've done something selfish and dumb and after it's all over, you feel like kicking yourself in the teeth. I feel like this song is about a downright lethargic and unsatisfied guy who just thinks everything is shitty, but turns this into a sort of "emo" lifestyle, acting as if he invented it himself. Yet, this lifestyle is dull and doesn't make him any happier.

All in all, the general theme is that shutting out the world because you're miserable won't change anything and will only leave you to regret it in the end. A very good message and an equally good song.

Casiotone for the Painfully Alone – Suitcase in Hand Lyrics 18 years ago
What a shame, no other comments :-(.

This song brought about my love for Casiotone for the Painfully Alone. Although simple in lyrics, it's about running away from trivial troubles and finding peace. "No room for trouble in this old suitcase" points this theme out the best I think, in that wherever this train takes him, his troubles will not follow. Even the beat to the song indicates that through all the chaos, a symphonic and relaxing rhythm can be found. A very encouraging and hopeful song.

Casiotone for the Painfully Alone – New Year's Kiss Lyrics 18 years ago
Either way, I think this song focuses around a teenagers life, whether it be a boy or girl, and the confusion set around one's own identity. It's true that when we're young, we try to identify ourselves socially to sort of mold ourselves psychologically. The narrator knows this subconsciously, but can't make out what it all means; the confused reference to sex, crashing a party for social acceptance, and the awkward new year's kiss all point out to a confused teens trying to find him/herself. A very realistic song that makes you thankful you survived your teenage years :-p.

Thank you Kappimann for the correction, I hope someone fixes this page soon.

On the subject of the song, it just makes me feel all warm and relaxed inside. I believe it's about letting things go and living life to the fullest whenever it beckons. Perfect weather, full moon, warm tonight, streetlights all paint a beautiful picture for a midsummer's bike ride in the city. Just the thought makes me feel at peace, and the fact that Owen sings about doing all this with another person makes this moment very special.

Casiotone for the Painfully Alone – I Love Creedence Lyrics 18 years ago
This is by far my favorite song of Owen's. I at first thought Creedence was a man, but I could see how gender could be mistaken. Regardless, I still feel that Creedence is a man who fell in love with his best friend since elementary school. They must have broken up for an unknown reason and after she fell for another guy, he came to the realization that he is alone and growing older with so little love to be had, hence the unbearably emotional line:

"And since September I've been 26 years old
She's still the only one besides my dad
Who's ever said I love you Creedence"

I mean, you can hear the utter heartbreak in Owen's voice when he speaks those final words, which causes the listener to believe that this is an experience that is dear to Owen and his personal life. I as well have had an incredibly similar situation, and when I first heard this song, I thought Owen had written it just for me :-D. Very sad, very heart-felt, one of my favorite songs of all time.

Casiotone for the Painfully Alone – Half Ghost Lyrics 18 years ago
Unlike most of Owen's songs, this one seems to have such a greater, deeper meaning and really gets me everytime. "drive all night for no reason, just drive till the tape's done... at least this song wont cheat, at least this song wont leave" really got me deep, because I myself have driven just to get away from something I know you can't physically get away from. So sad that this song hasn't been commented on :-(.

Casiotone for the Painfully Alone – A Normal, Suburban Lifestyle is a Near Impossibility Once You've Fallen in Love With an International Spy Lyrics 18 years ago
I especially enjoyed the "get-down!" background voice and the frank simplicity of the sadness presented in this song. I'd really like to know if Owen had made this story up or if this had really happened. Requesting background stories if you please!

Modest Mouse – Birds vs. Worms Lyrics 18 years ago
I like to think of it as representative of the social classes in modern day society. The rich, elegant as birds, take advantage of the poor, weak and helpless as worms. The singer, being a worm, accepts the fact and asks for your pity, but then again, contradicts himself by saying that thats the way shit is.

Marilyn Manson – They Said That Hell's Not Hot Lyrics 18 years ago
I love Marilyn because he can be gone for so long and when he comesback, he can give us something that isn't crap.

Other than that, I think this song is about a man-tease. He makes these relationships with girls and what-have-you, then he drops them and fades away. "It was never about her, It was about the hurt", its not that he doesn't like her, it's just he gets a kick out of the fact she's in tears for him. He realizes this, making him feel like a monster, introducing the song by saying that it hurts him the most, in fact, it kills him.

Or you can go with the shitty, cliche "I can't find the right girl to fall in love with" emo crap. But you see, MM can't be emo, because MM makes music to cry over, hatred of self rather than hatred of life, making him elegantly brutal.

Everytime I hear the song, I can't help but invision a scenario where a group of slaves are digging and singing this song exactly how it is. Excellent work song, I feel. That's why they created them in the first place, creates rhythm.

KoЯn – Hollow Life Lyrics 19 years ago
I find this song to be very existentialist. When I hear this song, I can only think that Jon got the idea from the magnificent poem, "The Hollow Men" by T.S. Eliot. I suggest you look it up, very deep shit.

Deftones – Bloody Cape Lyrics 19 years ago
Hey, this is the first song I have analyzed on this website, but I feel that once I explain it, you'll see where I'm commin from, so bear with me...

I feel that this song is a symbol of early European voyage across the Atlantic to the Americas. It was the first thing I thought of when I heard the song.

To prove it, I will pick apart the lyrics:

In waves the ships have all sailed to the sea [New ships come into port ready for sailing]
Well do you wanna wait or leave with me tonight [No one would go, cuz they all thought the voyagers were crazy]
Cross your heart and pray the ocean will take us all the way in... [Pray to God we don't die in this voyage]

First we are, ever to fall off of the earth...
We must be the first ones in the world to fall of the earth
[All the crew were scared that they would fall off the Earth]

We could be... soon as our needs are fed [Once they got thier, they hungered resources]
You'll give in to me and the whole heartache [They figured the natives were dumb enough to do it]
Makes me feel alive/same typical offering/ [The natives thought they were gods]
And you always knew we make it all the way in... [You knew they would think that way, they are primative]

First we are, ever to fall off of the earth...
We must be the first ones in the world to fall of the earth

It could be soon...as...
The carnival's empty I need you to take me home...
god help, god help ...
[After the natives found they were being raped, they revolted and killed the settelers]

Also, the title, "Bloody Cape" has 2 meanings, 1 beings a body of water filled with bloodshed, like the coast of America after European invasion, or, anopther meaning would be a red cloak used during a bullfight, popular in countries such as Spain and France, 2 countries known for thier imperialism over the Americas.

I know, the song is probably about something totally different like sex or drugs, but I'd like to think it goes deeper than that. I hope we meet eye to eye on this one.
