This song, as told by Alex, is about a boy and his father who planted a tree in their backyard when the boy was very young. The boy grew up and the tree grew tall. When the boy was becoming a young man his father fell ill and died. The boy was completely grief stricken. One day he is sitting in his backyard grieving and he looks up at the tree and is filled with anger. He is outraged at the fact that this tree that he and his father planted long ago is still standing while his father is gone forever. In that instant he is filled with a desire to cut the tree down. This song is about the "conversation" the grief stricken boy has with the tree as he deals with his fathers death and the decision to end this 3 way relationship that started years ago. |
