Matt Costa – Sunshine Lyrics 17 years ago
i like to think of this as a bittersweet love song to the sun, sung from a flower's perspective... "drying up my bed" could be a reference to a flowerbed being dried up, and "old and grey" could easily be a reference to a flower getting wilted...

Glen Phillips – Thank You Lyrics 17 years ago
i'm surprised no one has commented on the blatant spiritual element in this song... the first line being "you made this world" and soon after "you gave me life"... sounds quite similar to the lyrics of modern day praise & worship. Anyone know Glen's religious stance? I know he believes in God, but this song seems very "Christian" but in a non-cheesey way. Especially the "Open me" and "Let it come through me" lines... definitely a prayer of many evangelicals.

Aimee Mann – Stranger into Starman Lyrics 17 years ago
"Starman" = a David Bowie reference? I'm not sure how one converts the word "stranger" into the word "Starman"... i would assume the lowercase g would be difficult to make look like a lowercase m.
But "star rats" is definitely a palendrome. But i'm still confused as to the meaning of the song.

Over the Rhine – Jack's Valentine Lyrics 19 years ago
I have a sneaking suspicion this song was heavily influenced by CS Lewis. I'm not sure if the name "Jack's Valentine" is a reference to his nickname, but the line in the last verse about "no Christmas underneath this weather" is definitely a reference to Narnia under the White Witch's reign.
