These lyrics are inaccurate- it's "I hold the line"- like a soldier on the front line, dig? He's holding the line, everybody else just queues up. It's also "start to crack" not turn to crack. I'm assuming "now you lair" is a typo of "now you're a liar." Don't think it's "made of king" either, but I don't know for sure 'cause Shaun's a genius but he's also a fookin mushmouth of a singer... still, ya gotta love 'em. |

Uncle Chop Shop seems to have never read the Satanic Verses- it's open to LOTS of interpretation. Personally, I like Rushdie's poetry better (Arab culture has a wonderful poetic tradition), & I think it's cool that Bono was humble enough to give up the reins (for once!). As far as interpretation, I agree with xfmjunky |

I love U2 and everything, but I have to call them on this one- nobody mentions it, but this is a reworking of an old Kraftwerk song. |

He's talking to YOU. He's saying the power of Christ (aka- "Christ Consciousness", also Buddha-mind, etc.) is within everyone and the only thing that keeps people from saving the world is that they simply do not choose to. See, much is often made of the Christian connection in U2's music, but for some reason people neglect to take note of the psychedelic/ mystical aspect. These guys are way past just talking to or about god. They're becoming one with it. And Bono's saying you should, too... |
