If you ask me it's a message against war, but that's greatly influenced by MGS3 and its many anti-war messages. I picture a war veteran/mentor (boss?) telling/warning their son/protégé (student) (snake?) about the military and war. Here’s my interpretation: (By the way, "they" are the military/government) Son, you've got a way to fall (a long Journey to death) They'll tell you where to go (they’ll order you) But they won't know (they don't really know what is happening around them - ignorance) Son, you'd better take it all (gain all of the knowledge you can) They'll tell you what they know But they won't show (...how they really fell about it - no emotion or …that they don’t know everything) Oh, I've got something in my throat (nervous, guilt?) I need to be alone (to get over it) While I suffer (hurt upon the recollection of the horrible past) Son, you've got a way to kill (you will have to kill) They're picking on you still (and it won’t stop) But they don't know (…how hard it is) Son, you'd better wait to shine (hide your discoveries) They'll tell you what is yours (they’ll tell you what to keep) But they take mine (they’ll take what they want… including your life) Oh, I've got something in my throat I need to be alone While I suffer (Flashback) Oh, there's a hole inside my boat (I’m nearing the end) I need stay afloat (fighting to stay alive) For the summer long (at least until this is over) Left my sweet soul (my innocence is gone) Beneath the bed clothes (stripped away) I'm not coming down (it will never come back) Walls have ears but (I keep warning people) No one hears when (nobody listens) Nobody's around (and they’re all dead) Son, you'd better wait to fall (keep on living) They'll tell you where to go (they still order you) But they won't know (…how hard it is) And that’s my line-to-line interpretation of way to fall…wow I spent a lot of time on that… TA DA!! in my opinion, this song isnt to be taken literally, but i get that the person bottles up his anger for too long and he either did, or imagined that he blew up at someone, maybe even killed someone in his anger built up over a long period of time. in a way it kind of reminds me of a school shootig and i dont know why. "i hereby declare a martial law" he is saying that theyre lives are in his hands and he has control over them. the "animal" in the spoken part is his fire. he took all kinds of abuse and blame for things he never done. he then blames it on them "when the anger within Builds up for too long... Takes us over... And we all are forced to obey" he says that he wont stop "'Til the rules are the same for us all" or that they 'know his pain' "Bells toll all over town, burn, burn until it's all gone Game over, what was a bad joke is now a reality show..." yay cool lines! and i think the line "With years of abuse" helps reinforce my points, i could be wrong but thats my take on it. it doesnt help that i just finished a book with a school shooting in it, good book "every fear" by rick mofina. i digress anyways go to this site cause its a great idea www.lost.eu/cc00 lat0r! |
