| Again, no, people are missing the point - Demanufacture is a concept album - and thus this is again a "fuck you" to the machines - however as later songs show - the rebellion being encouraged (as the machines begin to take over I would assume) is quashed. | |

Okay, I'll pull this song apart: The conscious man is dead And I buried him - I think this part is talking about a human, who in his struggle against machines has alienated himself from his inner humanity. Beneath this scarred tissue Armored skeleton The machine is now alive Desensitized with open eyes Powered by an angry mind And is refuelled by those I despise - I think in order to fight the machines, he himself has become one - but I also think this part is not literally - a la Terminator, but rather a metaphor. Those he despises are the machines - fight fire with fire so to speak. I've become what they detest A delinquent survivalist Without fear and no regrets They fucking say I am a criminal - Self explanatory - he has gone against the machines - become a bee in their bonnet if you will. He unlike the rest of humanity has broken away from the machines rules and is now an outcast. I must steal To survive I must kill To moralize Leaving people victimized Fuels my angst inside - I think this section talks about his struggle overall - he has gone against his own humanity - however the ironic phrase "I must kill to moralize" refers to not only the killing of machines - but humans as well - the machines have forced him to take drastic measures and part of that is reminding people of true humanity - that being that they can go against their morals and values - something the machines have taken away. I'm your judge And your jury You don't get An attorney With my verdict Of guilty An execution in fury - Judge Dredd anyone? The machine is now alive To wreak havoc in your lives There's no use to hold me back I am ready to attack - Again his stance against everyone - he is now an outcast survivalist - and will wreak havoc on the machines and those who follow them. I've become what they detest A delinquent survivalist Without fear and no regrets They fucking say I am a criminal I am a criminal I am a criminal I am a criminal - They i think is both humanity and the machines - he is now an outcast from all vestages of society - and with a lack of resolve in the song - it is up to the listener to determine his fate. |

Why the fuck do people think that FF's lyrics are so serious yet based on fucking trivial events - they are so much deeper than that. The Buddhist monk comment is accurate - however FF have now turned from the ManVMachine area and into anti-corporisation - and this is a take on that. My Chains are PAPER thin and they're welded with INK. The weopons are no longer guns, swords etc - the pen is now mightier than the sword and this song is told from the perspective of someone who agrees. For fucks sake - FF's lyrics are not trivial - they have so much more meaning behind them - Burton is just incredible. |

Again coming back to the machines (by the way, this song fucking rules) I think that this song is not in any way a cheap Kerry King-type shot at religion, but rather is dealing with that fact that if in fact Christ did suffer as much as he did (I think he did) then humanity has a great way of repaying him by ignoring him totally and allowing themselves to worship science (the machines) rather. I'm reaching out With sealed eyes I grab for light Visions decried I think that verse is great because it shows that now that humanity has abandoned God and worshipped machines - who have now enslaved them all - they are now turning back to God who is ignorning them. Damn I'm good. The last few lines talking of the crucifxion describe Christs suffering and the "where is your Savior now?" is a take on what those who killed Jesus said to him - rather the machines are saying it to humanity - "where is your Savior now. You abandoned him, this is your fault" The first few verses talking about the apparent non-existance of God are in fact talking about the non-existance of the man-made Gods that they are trying to worship - the real God exists, but the ones humanity are seeking to follow do not exist. How do I support and close my arguement? "Abandoned faith You left behind" There you go - I rest my case. |

Okay, I feel like I need to break this down: DARK BODIES FLOATING IN DARKNESS NO SIGN OF LIGHT EVER GIVEN IMPRISONED IN A WORLD WITHOUT A MEMORY UNCONSCIOUS, OR AM I CONSCIOUS? CUT FROM THE HEART I AM PART OF SOMETIMES I FEEL AS THOUGH I'M FROZEN IN HEAVEN Man has lost the war against machines, and are now slaves to them (a la Matrix). "Cut from the heart I am part of" - Their inner humanity has been taken away from them. They are unaware of their own existance. AND I SAW MY OWN FACE IN THE DARK AND LONLINESS AND I SAW MY OWN FACE LIKE A SPARK FROZEN IN HEAVEN "I" - meaning this song is from one humans perspective. Perhaps this person is different from the others and like quiffporn said - a dream sequence - this one person has had their mind freed. IN DREAMS I SEE MYSELF FLYING CLOSER TO THE SUN, AND I'M CLIMBING TRIED TO TOUCH THE SUN BUT THE BRIGHTNESS BURNED MY EYES UNCONSCIOUS, OR AM I CONSCIOUS? FELL FROM THE SKY LIKE A STAR SOMETIMES I FEEL AS THOUGH I'M FROZEN IN HEAVEN Again describing how the person has been set free - yet they are unaware of it, and are unsure of what is happening to them. The sun is a metaphor for freedom. DARK MY LIFE WAS SO DARK... MY MIND WAS SO DARK... EVERYTHING WAS DARK UNCONSCIOUS, OR AM I CONSCIOUS? FELL FROM THE SKY LIKE A STAR SOMETIMES I FEEL AS THOUGH I'M FROZEN IN HEAVEN AND I SAW MY OWN FACE IN THE DARK AND LONLINESS AND I SAW MY OWN FACE LIKE A SPARK FROZEN IN HEAVEN DARK BODIES FLOATING IN DARKNESS... They have the out of body experiance and realise what is happening to them, but at that point they are returned to their pitiful existance - hence the "Dark Bodies floating in darkness" - humanity is surely doomed. I think that final climax is just incredible. And I also agree that the "Suture" mix is better than the original. |
