The Chicks – Not Ready To Make Nice Lyrics 19 years ago
Oh, I forgot. Someone asked about the "teach their daughters to hate a perfect stranger" lyric. That refers to a mother, holding her child, protesting outside a concert. She was trying to get her kid (who couldn't have been more than two) to say "screw 'em."

If anyone hasn't seen it, the documentary about them has been out for a few weeks now, aptly named Shut up and Sing. It's worth seeing.

MizLayla, the reason no one heard from them for a while was because after their Top of the World tour ended, Emily got pregnant and gave birth to twins, and then they spent a good amount of time writing the songs and recording them. Three years isn't an unreasonable amount of time to spend in the studio with a new album. And as for the foreign soil argument, Natalie has said that since she was in London, and England was going to war with the US, many of them probably shared the sentiment. Still, she has also said she would have said it no matter where she was. I think it's ridiculous that they received that kind of backlash -- numerous people in country music (Vince Gill, for example) have said, don't you think Natalie Maines has been bashed enough? So kudos to the chicks for staying strong and writing deeply personal songs like this. Last I checked, this was America, and no one should ever be told to just "shut up and sing." Plus, Natalie has also made the comment that she tried to shut up and sing at the same time, and it didn't really work. ;)

Schuyler Fisk – Songs That Say Goodbye Lyrics 19 years ago
I saw an interview with Schuyler talking about this song. She wrote it for a breakup, and put everything she wanted to say to the guy into the song, and played it for him...and it was a disaster! But she got a good song out of it. So basically what Konstantine said, she's in this relationship but she's not in love with the guy, so ends it.

Schuyler Fisk – Hello Lyrics 19 years ago
I think it's about a relationship that she (the narrator) ended. The guy wanted her back, but she felt she couldn't be in the relationship at that point, so they both moved on ("it's your turn to leave me hanging"). Except she hasn't really moved on, and finally got up the courage to call him, to see who he was with, and if he had gotten over her. She might not nessecarily want him back, but it does hurt her that "I made you hate me."
