I was in college a few years ago, and everytime I hear this song I think of one girl and one semester and one relationship i wish i had never fucked up. its that feeling when you know two people are probably not meant to be but you put yourself through it to get it to work then you throw it all away and for what but endless nights of drinking haunted by a broken memory of a face that you know you will never forget. |

I agree there could be quite of few good meaning to this song, take it for whatever it is, does anyone think this could easily be pints of guinness II, or a continuation of the same themes from that song. I mean seriously same rowdy up beat type of song but the lyrics are those of a troubled life. Just something i thought about it. If youre going to rip yoursel off why not with one of your own best songs. Either way great song, great artists, kick ass performers, still one of the best live shows ive ever seen, its strange seeing them play large venues but you hope real fans continue to support a band that has been working its ass off for years. |

To me it sounds like hes trying to go home whether its to his mother or his girl, what have you, seems to me its about having to move on, or being forced to deal with change. Got kicked out of school last semester down south listened to this song for three hours on the way up north going home, after leaving four years of good friends and good times, the fact that i got to get home was struggle enough, months in the making, i guess i really relate to the song to that specific situation, leaving, having some hope in coming home, but knowing that uncertainity still lies ahead. |

I think the electric version of this song found on the I Stole These Demos From the Lucero Show floating around online, its faster, angrier, conveys more desperation than the acoustic version, yeah and the song is pretty straight forward, especially when you wake up one morning and you realize that was your night, and will be your next night, and somehow the excessive routine just becomes that routine, when partying stops being fun and you realize youve lost control, alot of the album deals with this issue i think, lack of control, either way, great song. |

From my perspective it doesnt have to be about selling out, but finally seeing an end to a situation or relationship and coming out feeling empty as if it was all for nothing. A real disgust for a situation or time or place, the line " apologies to all for the asshole i am" just shows the indifference of the songwriter, covered up by feelings of being burned out, that point when you just dont think you can work another hour at your job, or stand another minute fighting with your girlfriend or another drink at the bar. |

Sick song, saw them live at Alley Katz in Asbury NJ this past December, got to see the band up front in a pretty small venue. This was the first time I had a chance to check out The Draft since HWM split up but I they sound fucking great especially Wollard, he fucking belts out those songs night in and night out no matter what the circumstances. Back to the song, just reminds me of nights out having a good time trying to make the best of it with whatever you got, its a struggle and Wollard relates it through his songwritting. Songs like this and New Eyes Open, Out Of Tune, and Bordering are just all around great rock songs period. |

i think the line " your just one drink ahead of your past" is probably the best part of the song, it just sums up the desperation and depression of the song, great fucking song. |
