I just wanted to say...this is my new favorite song. I'm fairly recently single again, but wow I can't listen to this song without missing my ex :( |

I love how the Maroon 5's songs are so charged with emotion/sexuality; this song pretty much carries that blend perfectly.
"Sunday Morning" is a blisteringly sexual song too, and their music makes it all the more impacting. |

I agree that it sort of sounds like Backstreet Boys, especially with the "this is goodbye" line, but it also has that Maroon 5 deep R&B groove to save it.
Good song. |

Does anyone see the irony of even having this song on a site devoted to lyrics :) Besides that, I think this song is pretty cool, especially in the Matrix:Reloaded credits. |

I would say this song is about a time in a person's life where they are first starting to question the values they have been brought up with all their lives. Maybe they start seeing major holes or problems with their old belief systems, and their parents or peers can't really offer any advice. I talk from experience, because I definitely went thought a time like that when I went to college. There comes a point where everyone wants others to just stop telling them what they should believe and decide for themselves. When you start questioning your beliefs though, it's like blood in the water to all the "resposible adults" who feel it's their God-given duty to guide the naive young man to what he should believe. When they really start laying on the pressure, it has completely the opposite effect than attracting you to their beliefs; you want to just run away, make everything quiet so you can think, and find what's really true underneath all the propaganda and doctrines. This song really speaks to me. |

My favorite line is "he knows he can help himself, he can tell by a look at the books on his shelf" I just picture an insecure, 30ish man sitting at home on a Friday night looking though his self-help books, and selecting one called "How to attract a wife." or something.
Also, "You don't mind where you are cause you know where you've been" sort of tells me that it's important to see how our past has led us up to our present conditions, and that even though things may seem bad, we can look ahead and know that it's simply the foundation of something else. |

I love this song, because I believe it's talking about a man who is very attracted to a woman, but knows that he isn't showing her the whole truth. She wants to know him inside, but he's worried that if she truly gets inside his head, she will be pushed away (I've got things inside my head that even I can't face.) So, he tries to keep their relationship at a bit of a distance. I also love the line, "So take your glasses off and don't act so sincere." |
