Damien Rice – Rootless Tree Lyrics 19 years ago
Let me start by saying I think Damien Rice and I must have dated the same girl...on first glance, this song is oviously about the struggle to get over a relationship in which the two people still love/hate each other, and probably always will.

After reading through the lyrics a couple of times, though, it seems there could be some struggle to escape the religious dogma embedded as a child.

"They say be true, don't stain your bed/We go blind when we needed to see"

Think about all that can mean...and it's not limited to sexuality. Follow that up with "And it leans on me like a rootless tree," which can be interpreted as something powerful with no foundation. I don't think these quotes are taken out of context, either.

Just food for thought.

Death Cab for Cutie – Brothers on a Hotel Bed Lyrics 19 years ago

you obviously dont understand this song.

you obviously don't understand absurd senses of humor.

onward...
this song is about disappointment in life, love, marriage. the speaker is disappointed in what's become of himself physically, first..."no longer easy on the eyes/these wrinkles...disguise the youthful boy below"

he goes on to talk about the exciting days when his love was new, and they had dreams, but didn't turn out the way he had hoped - "life is what happens while you're busy making PLANS" - and now he's contrasting that with the old couple he's now a part of. i'm certain they're the old couple that eats at applebee's while not saying a word to each other, go home...she puts on her old lady floral nightgown...they say "goodnight, dear" and give a puckered, passionless kiss, and then turn over to go to sleep. like two brothers on a hotel bed.

sad, really. i play this song constantly to remind myself of how i don't want to end up.
