he's trying to relate god as music and that each of us is a note in the song of humankind...how once it was innocent and pure and over time it's become corrupted and distorted |

the song definitely has a double meaning ... both of harmonising your music with a band, getting everybody in synch to work together...as well as a layer of meaning about relationships (more than love really) the compromise and harmonising of personalities |

this is such a compelling song, somewhat autobiographical of Townsend's growth into the musician he is"When you sing to your mum, and you hum and you croon And she says that she'd like it "with more of a tune" And you smash your guitar at the end of the bed Then you stick it together and start writing again" and his feelings on his art"You must really have something Jumping, thumping, fighting, hiding away important to say"...his frustrations, his views on celebrity "But is that what you want, to be rich and be gone?"...it's a great song about being an artist and a rockstar |

this is possibly one of the greatest songs by one of the greatest bands to set foot on a stage. it's epic and iconic...when i hear that synth loop start up i have to stop and listen...then the piano comes in and i get goosebumps. it's just enthralling from front to back.
i can see how it might be about vietnam, too...i hadn't considered that before |
