| Shinedown – Devour Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I can't help but think about Joseph Kony when listening to this song. How he kidnaps children and forces them to kill for him in Uganda and surrounding areas. I'll bet "they're only toy" to him, too. | |
| Depeche Mode – Enjoy The Silence Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
To me it's about someone who's had his heart broken so many times that the girl he's with now is being told not to say anything that would jeopardize their relationship. After all, there is always that chance of having second thoughts about being with someone, but this man would rather prevent that so that he wouldn't end up searching again for what he's looking for. All that he needs, he's holding in his arms, intending not to let go of her. Also, those harmful words can come from other people, those who've hurt him before or would love to. "Little" might just mean she's a small girl;) Just kidding about that last part. But yes, I do agree it might describe her as naive. |

| Green Day – 21 Guns Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
So your solution is to ignore the nuclear weapons research in North Korea, the Communist control in China, the lack of rights women have in the Middle East, not to mention countries where converting to a different religion is punishable by torture and death? The more America fights for freedom in countries where it doesn't exist, the more those who want to keep their nations under an iron fist will try to suppress that, so of course there will some opposition to it! In the meantime, try being a patriot for once! |

| What I presented to you is a reality that is ongoing throughout the world. Take it or leave it. | |
| Green Day – 21 Guns Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Well said. And to think that hundreds of fans get their political ideals from listening to these three rich dudes and form their opinions about the war and the last president we had just by listening to their 2004 album American Idiot. Billy Joe once toured in 2004 with a Bush mask with the word "Idiot" written on the forehead, hoping Bush would lose the re-election. He even voiced strong opinions to Rolling Stones magazine about the 2008 election, hoping Obama would win. His opinion does have that much power to sway popular belief. Same with Linkin Park. Thousands of people listen to his music, most of them voters. Something to think about. |

| Green Day – 21 Guns Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
It means living comfortably in the United States of America with all the basic luxuries of a middle class citizen, while letting the poor and unfortunate die for the lack of a better life on the other side of the world in countries like China, Sudan, Uganda, North Korea, and other places under military control, Communist regimes, not to mention Muslim controlled countries where conversion to any other religion is punishable by torture and death. You only get one shot at life, and not everyone is born in a free country. Hence the phrase "can't get another try". I guess freedom is not for everyone. |

| Green Day – 21 Guns Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| How soon can we expect North Korea and Afghanistan to follow our lead if we really did that? And how exactly will those with nukes aimed at America and other countries dispose of THEIR arms? Wishful thinking. | |
| Metallica – Where The Wild Things Are Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
To me it's about the little world children live in before they learn just how big the world really is, in short, child bliss. The references to toys, anyone ever play with GI Joe's and Army Men? Ever "wage war" with another friend's toys? We used to play with our toys, such as army men, while our parents watched the news about the latest massacres and casualties in the real world, whether or not we were aware of what they were watching. "It's time to save your world" sounds like, "It's time to play with your toys and win against the bad guys (who didn't have villain toys as kids?)" "So close your little eyes" sounds like "In time you will learn about how big the world around you really is, but for now, go to bed early tonight like usual". "Touch the sun" may be in reference to finding out how harsh the world really is, hence the "burning" of the "fingers one by one". What's the thesis? :"Will this earth be good to you? Keep you clean or stain through?" Will we be well treated, kept pure? Or treated harshly and corrupted? |

| Metallica – St. Anger Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I think the reason behind the whole album is this: Napster. Not really what was said before, but it's because the previous music could be downloaded for free. So Metallica decided that, since their music was being downloaded, they would create such a horrendous album that nobody would want to download, so that people would stop downloading their music. Thus, their revenge against the guy who created Napster. Good job, Shawn. You ruined it for all of us. |

| Metallica – Until It Sleeps Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
According to online sources, James's mother Cynthia (or his father, whichever) died from a cancer that could've been cured, but due to his family's belief in Christian Science, the cancer was not treated. A lot of songs, like "The God That Failed" and "The Struggle Within" are James's attitude towards God, since he was raised in the religion of Christian Science, it seems that he believes that is what Christianity is. Such is not true. One of the four Gospels was written by the disciple Luke (or St. Luke, to some of you). Luke is known as "The Beloved Physician." He even used medical terms when writing the Gospel. What did physicians practice, even that far back? Medicine. So one of the disciples of Jesus Christ practiced medicine. I sure wish James was raised in better circumstances and didn't have to lose a parent to a curable disease because of such a flawed religious practice. |

| The Offspring – You're Gonna Go Far, Kid Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
The Offspring aways seem to me to be commenting on today's society (Come Out and Play, The Kids Aren't Alright, etc.). This song does have reference to Lord of The Flies, but I highly suspect that they are applying it to real life in some way or another. Is it about the President? Who knows? The success of the band? Maybe. I just think it's about someone who's very manipulative and the Lord of The Flies references are reinforcing that point. Usually songwriting is influenced by a certain event, person, and sometimes a certain mood about a current situation. |

| The Offspring – Hammerhead Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Speaking of schools, that is where Islam is taught, even in the our own public schools, thanks to all you liberals out there. Maybe our level of tolerance was part of the reason 9-11 happened. | |
| The Offspring – Hammerhead Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
mxmang, were you thinking the same thing on September 11th? Or better yet, in case you think it was an inside job, what about the released videtapings by Al-Qaeda executing Americans by beheading them? Or how about the fact that a Muslim sniper released a video of himself killing eight of our soldiers in Iraq without being caught? The Middle East is a formidable foe, they already have control of North Africa, Spain, and Indonesia, they already killed milions of people who spoke out against Islam, and they already are bent on destroying the Western World, and guess what? That's us. Think before you call us narrow-minded and speak the same bullcrap. |

| The Offspring – Defy You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| When he sings "All my will, All my strength..." he sounds like Aaron Lewis from Staind. And the background singing "You can't go back" sounds like Limp Bizkit. Coincidence? | |
| The Offspring – Hammerhead Lyrics | 17 years ago |

February 26, 1993 Ramzi Yousef plants 1,500 pounds of explosives in an underground garage of one of the Twin Towers, killing six and injuring thousands of other people. September 11, 2001 His uncle Khalis Sheikh Mohammed succeeds with his plan on bringing both Twin Towers down to the ground. March 29, 2002 18 year old Palestinian Ayat al-Akhras blows herself up in a mall in Israel, killing two people, one of them preventing her from killing more. January 14, 2004 21 year old Reem al-Raiyashi, mother of two, becomes the first female suicide bomber enlisted from Hamas and kills at least four Israelis and wounds several others in Gaza. September 20, 2004 Muslims videotape and eventually release the beheading of American civil engineer and Iraqi resident Eugene Armstrong. November 2, 2004 Mohammed Bouyeri brutally murders and decapitates Theo Van Gogh for his film Submission, documenting violence against women in Islam. October 26, 2006 Australian resident Sheik Taj Din al-Hilali publicly likens women who do not wear the traditional headdress, the hijab, as uncovered meat left in the streets. March 3, 2007 al-Qaeda releases a video of an execution of 18 bound and blindfolded Iraqi troops suspected of assaulting a Sunni woman. November 29, 2007 Gillian Gibbons is imprisoned for 15 days and deported from Sudan for naming a teddy bear Muhammed. The next day Muslims protest, demanding her execution. December 12, 2007 Canadian resident Muhammad Parvez shoots and kills his own daughter after she refuses to wear a hijab. December 28, 2007 Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, who vowed to defeat militant Islam in Pakistan, is killed by a suicide bomber. THAT'S the kind of people we're fighting against in the Middle East, even Iraq. Keep fighting, soldiers! |

| R.E.M. – Stand Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This is basically R.E.M. making a point that they can write a song about absolutely nothing and it'll still be a big hit. They really know how to write catchy tunes that will sell. This is one of my favorites. | |

| Dropkick Murphys – Time to Go Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Taking the Red to the Orange line means you're coming from the south side of Boston, namely South Station and I think Quincy. Dropkic Murphys are from South Boston. | |
| The White Stripes – Icky Thump Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| We should have all the Native Americans patrol the border. Considering what we've done to them already, they'd be more than willing to prevent any more intruders from entering. | |
| The White Stripes – Icky Thump Lyrics | 18 years ago |

There is a big difference between immigrating to America LEGALLY and immigrating to America ILLEGALLY. If you have a problem with the system, why don't you become a citizen first LEGALLY and then try to do something about it? Until then you're complaining about something you can't change in a country you are not allowed by law to live in. Make the effort. Or go home. Fix up your own country before you add problems to ours! |

| AFI – The Missing Frame Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| On a film roll, a missing frame is noticeable for a split second and there is a slight jump in the picture. If a frame is torn, taping it is the best way to put it together, but it still won't fix the torn image itself. If it's torn, it's torn for good. But at 24 frames per second, you soon forget about the blip in the picture (or the taped up frame) as you keep watching the film and therefore stop caring about it. | |
| Linkin Park – Foreword Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| According to www.songfacts.org, it's the sound of Mike Shinoda throwing a CD against a wall after realizing it got corrupting, probably replayed a couple of times. You can hear a gasp of frustration in there somewhere, too. But I like Bane2's explanation. I'll go with that. | |
| Linkin Park – Given Up Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Finally, an fast, upbeat song with plenty of scream time. Chester lets it all out on this track. This song seems to follow the theme that "Breaking The Habit" and "Somewhere I Belong" and "By Myself" run along. |

| Linkin Park – No More Sorrow Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
So Linkin Park finally got on the anti-Bush bandwagon along with Green Day and the rest of the bands out there that decided to side against Bush to gain more popularity. Not that everyone in the band was a hardcore Bush supporter to begin with, but still, this is their first political song. |

| Linkin Park – Bleed It Out Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Better than the first single they put out. I think they released "What I've Done" on the radio first just to grab the attention of the general audience and then played this one just to remind them what Linkin Park has really become. Maybe it's my sound system in the car, and I only heard it once (forgive me if I'm wrong about it) but it could've sounded heavier second half of the song. When the song ended, I thought to myself, "That's it? Clapping the whole time?" The music itself sounded like it was going nowhere but staying where it was. |

| Godsmack – Shine Down Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Shine Down was once played right before a song by Shinedown on the radio here in Mass. | |
| Jane's Addiction – Suffer Some Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| On a pregnancy test, pink means not pregnant, blue means pregnant. It sounds to me that she had a daughter from having fun (thus suffering some from it). So she cashes her little one in (?) just to get more drugs. This songs sounds like a downward spiral ("more problems to come") as a result of living life however you want. | |
| AFI – Love Like Winter Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I seriously think this song is about what Davey thinks of the Catholic view of salvation. Let's take it line by line: Warn your warmth to turn away+ Here it's December every day (The nature of sin is compared to being dead) Press your lips to the sculptures and surely you'll stay (reference to the statues of the apostles? The Catholics believe that homage to these stautes shortened your time in Purgatory) For of sugar and ice, I am made (Possibly he's comparing that to the idea of being made of dust) It's in the blood (Salvation in the blood of Christ) It's in the blood I met my love before I was born (A reference to verses like Isaiah 49:1 and Psalm 139:13 speaking of God knowing us before we are born) He wanted love, I taste of blood (God, a sprit, loving Man, made of flesh and blood. He wanted us to love Him back, but instead we rebelled and are now cursed with death) He bit my lip and drank my war from years before (The war refers to Man's struggle against the flesh, and the years before refer to the time since the Fall of Man. God 'drank' our war, took on our sins, to pay the price) She exhales vanilla lace (Now these next few lines might refer to the virgin Mary and people claiming to see her and get messages from her) I barely dreamt her yesterday (saw her in a vision) Read the lines in the mirror through the lipstick trace (A way to refer to such inane sightings of messages from Mary) "Por siempre," she said, (Spanish for forever) "It seems you're somewhere far away" To his face (???) Now when the chorus changes from he to she, I think it talks about how Catholics pray to Saint Mary for salvation, as if she's as holy as Christ. I might be totally off. I've heard that Hunter, the bass player, is an atheist and that Davey wouldn't write something that would go against his band members' beliefs. I'm not Catholic, by the way. |
